Job description

Experteer Overview As a Principal Data Scientist at Optum.ai, you design and deliver advanced AI/ML and GenAI systems that tackle high-impact healthcare and operational challenges. You lead scalable ML initiatives and architect AI platforms that support enterprise workflows. You mentor others and drive responsible AI practices aligned with regulatory standards. This role offers remote flexibility in the U.S. with on-site requirements in Minneapolis or DC for some team members. You’ll shape AI innovations that improve health outcomes at scale. Compensation / Benefits * Lead development of advanced AI/ML systems using deep learning, time-series modeling, and probabilistic methods to address healthcare problems * Develop Generative AI and LLM-powered solutions including retrieval-augmented generation pipelines and AI copilots for enterprise workflows * Architect scalable AI/ML systems (feature stores, training workflows, serving infra, monitoring, retraining) * Build agentic AI and autonomous workflows with agent frameworks and A2A communication patterns * Advance model evaluation, reliability, and monitoring (offline metrics, safety testing, drift detection) * Drive responsible AI practices (explainability, bias detection, governance) * Mentor data scientists and review complex modeling approaches * Collaborate with engineering, platform, and product teams to operationalize AI/ML solutions in enterprise platforms Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in a related field * 10+ years of ML/AI experience with 7+ years deploying production ML systems * 8+ years Python-based ML development using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent; strong SQL * 5+ years deploying production ML systems (model serving, monitoring, lifecycle management) * 3+ years building Generative AI/LLM apps (prompt engineering, RAG, evaluation, safety) * 1+ years building or evaluating agentic AI systems (AI agents, MCP, A2A) Key requirements * comprehensive benefits package * incentive and recognition programs * equity stock purchase * 401k contribution * telecommuter policy * remote work options
