Senior IT Systems Engineer - Public Sector

Experteer Overview In this role you will provide advanced Tier II support for a nationwide fiber transport network, ensuring availability of IP and network management services across two NOC sites. You will act as a technical SME for Transport network management, tackling Tier II escalations and coordinating implementations, turn-ups, and decommissions. You’ll collaborate with lead engineers to maintain documentation, diagrams, and configuration artifacts that support engineering and operations. This position offers ownership, impact, and a path to shaping AI-ready connectivity. Compensation / Benefits * Operate Transport Network Management in engineering/operations as a technical SME * Handle Tier-2 escalations for SONET, OTN, DWDM issues * Coordinate Tier-2 network implementations, provisioning, configurations, test and turn-up * Interface with Lead Engineers on network requirements and designs * Coordinate transport device deactivation/decommission and retirements * Write and maintain SOPs and operational docs for Transport discipline * Develop and maintain circuit layout records and network diagrams * Review and provide feedback on as-built, engineering development, and configuration management drawings Tasks * Top Secret/SCI clearance * On-call after hours and 24x7 shift environment * Up to 10% travel * Technical skills and experience in OTN/SONET/DWDM * Security+ or equivalent IAT/IAM/IASAE Level 2 of DOD 8570.1 * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in IT (preferred) * Fluent in network management tools and protocols (e.g., One Control, MCP, DNA, TNMS, Remedy) * Ciena OC-A certification (preferred) * Knowledge of DWDM, SONET, OTN, and TDM technologies * Self-motivated with minimal guidance Key requirements * Health benefits * Life insurance * Voluntary lifestyle benefits * employer offe red perks * bonus structure (short-term/long-term incentives) * Remote/work flexibility (#LI-Remote)
