Job description

The role

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Technician - Computing to join the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment (ECE) at Kingston University. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting world-class teaching, research and innovation by providing specialist technical expertise across our computing laboratories and research environments.

Working primarily within the School of Computing you will provide second and third-line technical support, maintain and develop specialist computing laboratories, and ensure our teaching and research infrastructure remains secure, reliable and up to date. You will support a diverse range of technologies including Windows and Linux environments, specialist software, AI infrastructure, cloud platforms and advanced computing facilities.

You will work closely with academic staff, researchers and students, contributing to projects, technology development, laboratory enhancements and the delivery of practical teaching. The role also offers opportunities to investigate and implement emerging technologies, contribute to specialist projects and support the University’s growing research and AI capabilities.

The person

You will be an experienced IT professional with strong technical knowledge across Windows and Linux operating systems, networking, cloud technologies and specialist computing environments. You will enjoy solving complex technical problems and be capable of supporting a wide range of teaching, research and specialist laboratory activities.

You will possess excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills and be confident working collaboratively with academic staff, researchers, students and external suppliers. Experience of supporting technical computing environments, scripting or automation, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and specialist laboratory technologies would be highly advantageous.

You will be proactive, adaptable and committed to delivering an excellent technical support service while continually seeking opportunities to improve systems, processes and user experience. Above all, you will have a passion for technology and innovation and enjoy working within a collaborative higher education environment.

You will be qualified to Degree, HNC or equivalent/higher professional qualification in, Computer Studies or a related subject or have experience of managing a team of IT technicians. A strong working background of technical and complex troubleshooting skills is essential.

This is a full time, fixed term position until 30^th June 2027, with a starting salary of £39,407 per annum.
