Job description

We are seeking an experienced Rules Engine Developer to design, develop, implement, and maintain business rules and decision-management solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with business rules engines, rule authoring, decision tables, workflow integration, and enterprise application development.

The role will work closely with business analysts, product owners, architects, and development teams to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable, and high-performing rule-based solutions., * Design, develop, and maintain business rules using a Rules Engine or Business Rules Management System (BRMS).

  • Translate business requirements and decision logic into executable rules, decision tables, and rule flows.
  • Configure and manage rule sets, rule packages, decision services, and rule versions.
  • Integrate the rules engine with enterprise applications, APIs, microservices, and backend systems.
  • Develop and expose decision services through REST or SOAP APIs where required.
  • Work with business analysts and subject-matter experts to understand complex business policies and convert them into technical rules.
  • Optimize rule execution for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing of business rules.
  • Troubleshoot rule execution issues and production defects.
  • Support rule deployment across development, QA, UAT, and production environments.
  • Maintain documentation for business rules, rule flows, decision models, and technical configurations.
  • Implement rule governance, version control, auditability, and change-management processes.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture reviews.
  • Monitor rules-engine performance and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure rule implementations follow organizational security, coding, and compliance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of software development or rules-engine development experience.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more Rules Engine / BRMS technologies such as:
  • Drools
  • Red Hat Decision Manager
  • IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM)
  • FICO Blaze Advisor
  • Pega Decisioning
  • Camunda DMN
  • OpenL Tablets
  • Oracle Business Rules
  • Similar enterprise decision-management platforms
  • Strong understanding of business rules, decision tables, decision trees, rule flows, and rule prioritization.
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, Python, or another enterprise programming language.
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs and microservices.
  • Knowledge of JSON, XML, SQL, and relational databases.
  • Experience with Git or another source-control platform.
  • Understanding of CI/CD processes and automated deployments.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills., * Experience with DMN (Decision Model and Notation).
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized applications.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Experience working with high-volume or real-time decision-processing systems.
  • Knowledge of rule governance, auditing, and regulatory/compliance requirements.
  • Experience migrating business rules from legacy systems or application code into a centralized rules engine.
