Job description

Position Overview - We are seeking a Senior Data Protection & Disaster Recovery Engineer to manage and support enterprise backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Commvault, enterprise backup environments, VMware/Hyper-V, SAN/NAS storage, and AWS/Azure. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring reliable data protection, troubleshooting backup failures, conducting recovery operations and DR exercises, and maintaining enterprise recovery capabilities.

Position Responsibilities

· Administer, configure, monitor, and support enterprise Commvault backup and recovery environments.

· Troubleshoot backup failures, job errors, system logs, connectivity issues, and recovery problems.

· Configure and maintain Commvault backup policies, schedules, storage policies, retention, deduplication, and recovery operations.

· Configure and support Commvault IntelliSnap and storage-array snapshot integrations.

· Perform file, application, database, virtual machine, and system-level recovery operations.

· Design and support enterprise disaster recovery, replication, failover, and failback solutions.

· Participate in BCDR exercises, recovery testing, failover/failback activities, and after-action reviews.

· Monitor backup success rates, capacity, performance, retention, recovery points, and operational health.

· Support VMware and Hyper-V backup and recovery environments.

· Work with NetApp, Pure Storage, SAN/NAS, and other enterprise storage platforms supporting data protection.

· Support backup and recovery solutions across AWS and Azure environments.

· Analyze backup and system logs to identify root causes and implement permanent corrective actions.

· Develop and maintain backup, recovery, DR, and operational procedures.

· Maintain recovery documentation, architecture diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, and DR plans.

· Conduct recovery testing and validate RPO/RTO requirements.

· Identify risks and vulnerabilities affecting backup and recovery environments and recommend corrective actions.

· Automate backup administration and reporting using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or scripting technologies.

· Coordinate with storage, VMware, network, security, application, and cloud teams during complex incidents and recovery events.

· Provide technical status updates, reports, and recommendations to management and stakeholders.

· Participate in on-call support for critical backup and disaster recovery incidents.

Requirements

· Bachelor’’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

· 7+ years of enterprise data protection, backup, and disaster recovery experience.

· Strong hands-on Commvault administration and troubleshooting experience is required.

· Strong experience with CommCell, MediaAgent, backup policies, storage policies, deduplication, retention, and recovery operations.

· Experience with Commvault IntelliSnap and storage-array snapshots is highly preferred.

· Strong experience troubleshooting backup jobs, analyzing logs, and resolving backup failures.

· Experience designing and supporting enterprise disaster recovery environments.

· Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V backup and recovery.

· Experience with SAN/NAS storage platforms, particularly NetApp and Pure Storage, is preferred.

· Experience with AWS and Azure backup, storage, and recovery services.

· Strong understanding of RPO, RTO, replication, failover, failback, and recovery testing.

· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

· Experience with automation using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Shell scripting is preferred.

· Strong documentation and communication skills.
