Job description

Compensation: $76,860–$102,620 + discretionary yearly bonus and monthly phone allowance Position Overview Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking Building Systems Analysts II for direct hire opportunities supporting commercial commissioning and retro-commissioning projects throughout multiple U.S. regions. These positions are ideal for engineering professionals with experience in building automation systems (BAS), HVAC controls, commissioning, and commercial MEP construction who enjoy solving complex building performance challenges. The Building Systems Analyst is responsible for evaluating, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and optimizing building automation and HVAC systems for both new construction and existing facilities. Working closely with project managers, engineers, facility teams, contractors, and commissioning partners, this role helps improve system performance, reduce energy consumption, and ensure building systems operate efficiently throughout the project lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex healthcare, higher education, and commercial construction projects while traveling throughout an assigned region. Key Responsibilities Building Systems Commissioning & Optimization

  • Evaluate, verify, and optimize HVAC and building automation systems in new and existing facilities.
  • Perform site assessments, field investigations, documentation reviews, and due diligence activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve building performance and develop energy conservation measures.
  • Troubleshoot building automation systems, HVAC controls, and system programming.
  • Modify BAS programming as needed to optimize system performance.
  • Utilize testing instrumentation to verify system operation and performance.
  • Perform retro-commissioning (RCx) and new construction commissioning (Cx) activities.
  • Execute functional performance testing and oversee system acceptance testing.
  • Review pre-functional checklists and compare findings against field conditions.

Commissioning & Project Documentation

  • Participate in design reviews and construction submittal reviews.
  • Develop commissioning documentation using CxAlloy and other cloud-based commissioning platforms.
  • Prepare technical reports, commissioning documentation, field observations, and project updates.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and system records throughout each project.
  • Ensure building programming, documentation, and project deliverables are properly archived.

Project Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers, project managers, construction teams, facilities personnel, subcontractors, and trade partners.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across multiple disciplines.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate technical findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with issue resolution and recommend practical technical solutions.
  • Escalate project risks, delays, or technical challenges when appropriate.

Quality, Safety & Process Improvement

  • Follow company safety policies, commissioning standards, and best practices.
  • Maintain awareness of project energy performance goals throughout each engagement.
  • Verify implementation of approved energy conservation measures.
  • Ensure commissioning activities meet quality standards and project requirements.
  • Support continuous process improvements and standardization initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field required.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience with building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC controls.
  • Experience supporting commercial MEP construction projects.
  • Experience evaluating, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimizing building systems.
  • Healthcare and higher education project experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with retro-commissioning and/or new construction commissioning preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, and building automation systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting and optimizing BAS programming.
  • Experience using cloud-based commissioning software such as CxAlloy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Certifications

  • Engineering Intern (EI)
  • Commissioning Certification (ACG, BCxA, or ASHRAE)
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

Travel Requirements

  • Travel approximately 30–50%, depending on project workload and geographic region.
  • Travel includes project sites and regional office locations, with occasional travel outside the assigned region.
