Job description

As a Data Center Operations Technician, you will help support the day-to-day operation of a 24/7 facility featuring state-of-the-art redundant power and environmental systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience maintaining mission-critical infrastructure, monitoring building systems, responding to alarms, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting preventive maintenance and upgrades.

This role is a strong fit for someone with general maintenance experience, technical curiosity, and a desire to build a career in data center operations. You’ll work independently and alongside senior technicians, engineers, vendors, and contractors while developing your knowledge of the systems and practices required to keep a high-performance data center operating around the clock.

Your Contribution Will Likely Include

  • Performing routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, testing, and inspections of data center equipment and infrastructure.

  • Identifying and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment issues and supporting timely resolution to minimize downtime.

  • Monitoring temperature, humidity, power usage, security systems, equipment status, and other critical facility conditions.

  • Responding promptly to alarms and alerts, investigating potential causes, and taking appropriate corrective action.

  • Supporting scheduled equipment upgrades, installations, repairs, and replacements while helping minimize disruption to operations.

  • Maintaining accurate records of data center hardware assets, equipment specifications, serial numbers, and locations.

  • Tracking inventory and helping coordinate replacement parts and equipment to maintain operational readiness.

  • Working with external vendors and contractors on maintenance, equipment installations, upgrades, and repairs.

  • Documenting incidents, resolutions, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement and future troubleshooting.

  • Participating in disaster recovery and business continuity activities to help maintain service continuity during emergencies.

  • Supporting senior technicians and engineers on projects, maintenance activities, and operational priorities.

  • Maintaining clean, organized equipment rooms, racks, cable trays, and work areas with appropriate equipment labeling.

  • Following established safety procedures and operational standards while promoting a strong culture of safety.

  • Using AI and automation tools to streamline routine work such as document summaries, correspondence, meeting notes, and engagement tracking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • General maintenance skills or relevant experience.

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues, learn technical systems, and work effectively with electrical and mechanical equipment.

  • Ability to operate power tools and safely maneuver up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal instruction while collaborating effectively with technicians, engineers, vendors, and other business partners.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and related tools, with the ability to learn additional software.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

  • Ability to respond promptly to on-call situations.

  • Ability to work swing shifts and night shifts.

  • Aptitude and willingness to learn and utilize AI tools and technology.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $62,685 - $94,027 plus bonus eligibility.

This is an opportunity to work hands-on with the critical infrastructure that keeps a 24/7 data center running reliably, safely, and efficiently. You’ll build your technical skills across electrical and mechanical systems while learning alongside experienced technicians and engineers in a mission-critical environment.

Training will take place Monday through Friday on the day shift. Following training, the standard work schedule transitions to a 12-hour, rotating 4-3-3-4 schedule. Employees rotate approximately every 16 weeks between day shift (6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.) and night shift (6:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.), working every Wednesday with alternating Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays and Mondays off.
