Job description

Experteer Overview As Group Director of Applied AI & Engineering, you will lead Walmart’s elite AI and engineering team to build a scalable, multi-modal intelligence layer. You’ll own the vision, strategy, and execution for massive foundational models trained on Walmart’s vast data. Your work powers core consumer and enterprise products across Search, Personalization, Ads, Conversational Commerce, and Supply Chain Forecasting. You’ll drive cross-functional integration and lead adoption of AI at scale, shaping Walmart’s competitive edge. Compensation / Benefits * Define the multi-year roadmap for Commerce Foundational Models and shift toward unified multi-task generative architectures * Lead and scale a high-performing team of Applied AI researchers, ML engineers, and data scientists * Collaborate with product, engineering, and business leaders to ensure models deliver measurable business value * Act as the primary evangelist for foundational models within Walmart Global Tech * Drive cross-functional partnerships to integrate AI capabilities into Walmart’s products and operations Tasks * Master’s degree in CS, ML, Statistics, Mathematics, or a highly quantitative field (preferred) * 8+ years managing and scaling data science and ML engineering teams; at least 3 years managing managers * Proven track record designing, training, and deploying deep learning models at mass scale * Deep understanding of distributed training frameworks * Ph.D. in CS/ML (preferred) with strong publication record * Domain expertise in RecSys and generative recommenders; low-latency inference optimization Key requirements * medical, vision and dental coverage * 401(k) and stock purchase * paid time off including sick and parental leave * disability benefits * life insurance * education benefit (Live Better U)
