Experteer Overview Lead AI Software Developer in Leidos’ Air Traffic realm, shaping a mission-critical automation baseline using microservices, hybrid cloud data mesh, and AI-enabled capabilities. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams in a SAFe environment to deliver reliable, real-time software for national air traffic operations. The role blends traditional systems engineering with AI-augmented development to accelerate delivery and improve safety and quality. This position offers hybrid work with 3 days onsite in Gaithersburg, MD or Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and impacts millions of air travelers. Compensation / Benefits * Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications following modern engineering practices * Collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineers in an Agile/SAFe setting * Participate in sprint ceremonies and technical reviews * Translate requirements into working software with systems engineering and DevSecOps teams * Develop clean, testable code with CI/CD and DevSecOps practices * Contribute to system design discussions and technical decisions * Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs * Support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and continuous improvement * Work with QA, DevOps, and platform teams to ensure reliable delivery * Implement automated testing strategies (unit, integration, contract, end-to-end) * Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding and testing Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) * 4+ years of relevant experience or Master’s with 2+ years of relevant experience * Hands-on experience building and supporting microservices-based systems * Proficiency in at least one modern language (Java, Python, C++, or similar on Linux) * Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, automation, or intelligent platforms (Claude-Code) * Experience in Agile environments * Understanding of APIs and distributed systems * Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust * U.S. citizenship required * Successful completion of background investigations for government customers Key requirements *
