Systems Engineering Open Source Technology Data Processing

Job description

Quintel is a small and dynamic company with significant impact. Quintel advances the energy transition by providing others with insights into the energy system. Central to our approach is that we do not assume ownership of a problem, but rather enable others to gain insights themselves and then make progress. We do this through advisory work, research, and model development, with our main product being the open-source and open-access Energy Transition Model (ETM). About our internships As an intern you will do analysis and/or modelling work that is directly relevant for Quintel’s mission. Depending on your background and skills, you’ll be oriented more toward supporting our Consulting team or our Modelling & Development team. You’ll work closely with our advisors and/or modellers on activities such as: Oriented towards analysis:

  • Research the latest developments in the production of synthetic fuels
  • Determine how to translate national energy scenarios to provinces or municipalities
  • Determine how to align definitions used in the ETM with (inter)national standards
  • Compare tools currently used to explore solutions to grid congestion Oriented towards modelling:

  • Investigate options to improve cost calculations in the ETM
  • Create a tool that simulates the heat flow of an industrial site
  • Create a tool to perform a sensitivity analysis on the ETM
  • Identify improvements for the data processing pipeline of the ETM

Requirements

We’re looking for an intern to work with our team, for 32 - 40 hours a week. Furthermore, you…

  • Are currently pursuing a master’s degree in a relevant field, such as physics, energy sciences, chemistry, mathematics or systems engineering
  • Are proficient in English and ideally Dutch
  • Have experience with quantitative (data) analysis and/or modelling
  • Are familiar with (part of) the energy system
  • Are passionate about sustainability and the energy transition
  • Enjoy solving complex, abstract challenges
  • Communicate clearly and work well in a team setting
