Job description

AWS Security is looking for an Application Security Engineer to help validate that our services, applications, and websites are designed and implemented to the highest security standards. You will be responsible for analyzing the security of applications and services, discovering and addressing security issues, building security automation, and quickly reacting to new threat scenarios. You will have the opportunity to learn from, and be mentored by, those who are building and securing our cutting-edge services.

A Security Engineer at Amazon is expected to be strong in multiple domains and provide significant contributions to the AWS IT Security team and to multiple groups throughout Amazon. Security engineers are expected to develop elegant solutions to complex business problems and apply appropriate technologies while following security engineering best practices.

A Security Engineer must foster constructive dialogue and seek resolution when confronted with discordant views. Engineers in this role are expected to participate fully in the planning of the AWS IT Security team’s work and constantly seek opportunities for process improvement. A successful candidate will need a combination of troubleshooting, technical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle a mix of disparate tasks which may include project and software development work. Requirements

3+ years of programming in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar object oriented language experience

  • 2+ years of scripting, programming, and security code review in a common programming language (non-internship) experience
  • 2+ years of troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating basic tasks using command line tools (non-internship) experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or experience in IT Security
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or 2+ years of IT Security experience
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP
  • Knowledge of industry-based security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques
  • Experience in scripting, programming, and security code reviewing in a common programming language (non-internship)
  • Experience in troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating basic tasks using command line tools (non-internship experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in any combination of the following: application security frameworks, security code reviews, incident response, secure infrastructure, penetration testing, mobile security, cloud security, AI security, identity and access controls, threat modeling, cryptography, threat intelligence, or secure software development
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following domains: web application development, penetration testing, mobile security, cryptography, public key infrastructure, forensic security, IP security, SSL/TLS, computer viruses and malware, network security, trusted security, trusted execution, threat intelligence, IoT security implications, or authentication, 2+ years of any combination of the following: threat modeling experience, secure coding, identity management and authentication, software development, cryptography, system administration and network security experience
  • 2+ years of scripting, programming, or security code review in a common language, such as Python, Java or C++ experience
  • Knowledge of command line tools to troubleshoot protocols, analyze log outputs, or automate basic tasks
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP(S), DNS, and TCP/IP
  • Knowledge of networking protocols, to include HTTP(S), DNS, and TCP/IP
  • Experience with AWS products and services
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++
  • Experience in scripting, programming, or security code reviewing in a common language, such as Python, Java, or C++
  • Experience performing security activities across one or more phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), such as security design review, threat modeling, secure code review, and security testing
  • Knowledge of security technology and concepts (Authentication, Authorization, Single sign-on, Cryptography, etc.)
  • Experience working directly with security and engineering teams
  • Knowledge of network and web related protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP or equivalent
  • Experience with web services and related technologies
  • Experience in more than one major programming language (C++, Java, or related) and at least one scripting language (Perl, Python, or equivalent)
