Job description
Are you a telecom or utility communications professional who started your career in the field and later transitioned into engineering, planning, or project support?
We’re looking for a Communications & Network Connectivity Specialist to support critical electric utility substation projects. This role is ideal for someone who has hands-on experience with fiber, telecom, networking, or utility communications infrastructure and has evolved into a technical planning, design, or pre-sales engineering role.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop Communications & Network Connectivity Scope Definitions (CNC-SD) for substation projects
- Review and QA substation electrical drawings
- Create network port assignments and device configurations
- Develop scopes of work (SOWs), bill of materials (BOMs), and implementation plans
- Support project meetings and coordinate network infrastructure requirements
- Provide construction-phase support and manage field-driven design changes
- Work with engineers, project teams, network specialists, and construction personnel to deliver reliable connectivity solutions for critical grid infrastructure

- Telecom Field Technician ? Network/Telecom Engineer
- Utility Communications Technician ? Project Support Engineer
- Field Operations Specialist ? Technical Planner / Designer
You understand what it takes to deploy and support communications infrastructure because you’ve been in the field. Now you’re comfortable reviewing drawings, building scopes, planning deployments, and supporting projects from a technical desk role., * Experience in telecommunications, utility communications, network infrastructure, or electrical utility environments
- Knowledge of fiber optic construction and utility construction practices
- Strong understanding of IP networking and network equipment
- Experience developing SOWs, BOMs, project documentation, or infrastructure plans
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills
- Ability to work independently and drive projects forward
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility substation communications experience
- Experience supporting Cisco-based network environments
- Telecommunications circuit troubleshooting
- Fiber-optic WAN connectivity
- Cellular and satellite communications technologies
- Construction support or field engineering experience

- Candidates must reside within reasonable distance of Milwaukee, Madison, or Green Bay.
- Occasional travel to company offices and utility substations is required.
- A comprehensive 10-year background check is required for this position.
