Job description
- Design, build, and operate the backend services that run our code checks inside continuous integration. You own their reliability and their latency.
- Scale the platform to new repositories, new languages, and new check types, and keep the integration simple for the teams that adopt it.
- Build and maintain the data pipelines that store results, and the dashboards that report coverage, volume, and time to fix.
- Design clear APIs and integration points so other engineering teams can plug into the platform without our help.
- Improve the developer experience. Cut noise, write useful messages, and keep the feedback loop short.
- Write tests, add instrumentation, and operate what you build.
- Support our work on AI-assisted code review. Build the evaluation datasets and the pipeline that measures output quality.
Requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience. You have shipped and maintained production code in at least one of the following languages: Java, Kotlin, Python, Go, JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience that you build and operate backend services or platforms that other engineers use.
- Experience with developer infrastructure, such as continuous integration, build systems, or monorepos.
- Comfort with data. You can write SQL, build a pipeline, and put the result on a dashboard.
- Good testing and debugging practice. You measure before you optimize.
- Clear written communication across teams.
Experience in these areas is a bonus. None of them is required:
- Development of security tooling, static analysis, or dependency scanning.
- Knowledge of web or mobile application security.
- AWS configuration concepts.
- Measurement of output quality from large language models.

About the company
Airbnb was born in 2007 when two hosts welcomed three guests to their San Francisco home, and has since grown to over 5 million hosts who have welcomed over 2 billion guest arrivals in almost every country across the globe. Every day, hosts offer unique stays and experiences that make it possible for guests to connect with communities in a more authentic way.
The Community You Will Join Airbnb is built on trust. The Secure Development Engineering team builds the platform that checks Airbnb’s code as engineers write it. Our tooling runs in continuous integration on every pull request in our largest repositories. We are enablers, not blockers. We work closely with Developer Platform, Service Framework, Site Reliability Engineering, and our partner teams across Information Security.
The Difference You Will Make This is a software engineering role first. You will design, build, and operate a platform that thousands of Airbnb engineers depend on many times a day. The platform runs tens of thousands of checks each month, and that number grows as we add repositories and languages.
You do not need a background in security. We will teach you the domain. We look for engineers who build reliable systems, who care about latency and developer experience, and who like to make a slow thing fast.
