Job description
We are seeking a hands-on AWS Application Architect to lead the design and development of cloud-native, REST-based microservices. This role focuses on building scalable backend services on Amazon EKS, with the flexibility to use EC2, Lambda, or ECS when appropriate. You’ll work closely with engineering teams, guide best practices, mentor developers, and ensure our microservices platform is secure, modern, and well-architected. Responsibilities
- Architect and deliver REST-based microservices using containerized workloads on Amazon EKS, with the ability to select appropriate AWS compute services for each use case.
- Develop backend NodeJS REST APIs using Fastify/NextJS frameworks with strong focus on performance, reliability, and security.
- Build and maintain Kubernetes deployments, services, ingress rules, autoscaling, and workload security configurations.
- Design secure API exposure using API Gateway, Application Load Balancer, and related AWS-native integration services.
- Implement secure access to AWS services through IAM roles, IRSA, VPC endpoints, and private networking patterns.
- Troubleshoot issues across application, container, Kubernetes, networking, and AWS infrastructure layers.
- Develop and maintain architectural blueprints, roadmaps, and documentation for AWS-based microservices and applications.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership by coaching and mentoring development teams on cloud-native design and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance cloud-native engineering and CI/CD adoption.
- Stay up to date with AWS advancements, especially in EKS, identity, networking, and container ecosystem enhancements.
Requirements
- Strong Node.js expertise building production REST APIs with NestJS.
- Proven hands-on experience designing and implementing end-to-end solutions on AWS - not just familiarity with architectural patterns. You should be able to clearly articulate the tradeoffs behind every decision you have made
- Proficiency in AI-native development tools - specifically Kiro, Cursor, or VSCode with integrated coding assistants (Good to have)
- Hands-on experience with Amazon EKS - deployments, autoscaling, and container orchestration on AWS., * 10+ years in application development or cloud architecture with strong focus on cloud-native microservices.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Amazon ECS, EKS and Kubernetes (deployments, services, ingress, autoscaling, RBAC, networking).
- Must have strong expertise in NodeJS for building RESTful services using NestJS framework
- Experience using databases and caching services such as Amazon RDS/Aurora/DynamoDB and ElastiCache
- Solid background in Docker containerization and runtime optimization.
- Strong understanding of AWS compute, networking, storage, and integration services relevant to microservices.
- Experience implementing secure authentication and authorization using Cognito, JWTs, IAM, or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency in AI-native development environments and integrated coding assistants, specifically Kiro, Cursor, and VSCode.
- Proven troubleshooting skills across application, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure layers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to guide and influence engineering teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging, or service mesh patterns.
- Familiarity with data services such as AWS Data Lake, Athena, Iceberg
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or OpenTelemetry.
- Knowledge of agentic AI orchestration frameworks, such as Strands.
- Awareness of emerging AWS capabilities and the evolving container ecosystem.
