Job description

Babipur is looking for an exceptional ecommerce content specialist. You will take responsibility for the accuracy, quality, originality, and continuous improvement of both written and visual content across our website and all communication channels.

This is an adaptive role, sometimes offering variety and creative freedom, and other times working through spreadsheets with a deadline. You might research a play guide, interview a brand, explore the history behind a product, improve an important collection page, develop a newsletter, write a video script, or recognise a story unfolding within the business.

About Babipur

Babipur is an independent, family-run retailer based in Porthmadog, North Wales. Since 2007, we have developed a carefully selected range of ethical toys, clothing, footwear, reusable products, and sustainable family goods.

We have close, longstanding relationships with many of our brands and a large, active customer community. Our customers expect accurate product knowledge, honest explanations, useful comparisons, and content written by people who genuinely understand what they are talking about.

You will work directly with Babipur’s co-founder and our small content, marketing, photography, video, ecommerce, customer-service, and warehouse teams.

What you will do

Research, write, edit, and publish unique product descriptions in Shopify.

Work confidently with large product ranges, spreadsheets, Shopify data, metafields, exports, and imports.

Create and improve collection pages, brand pages, landing pages, and other important website content.

Research and write buying guides, play guides, comparison pages, articles, interviews, FAQs, and brand Q&As.

Explain detailed information such as materials, manufacturing, sizing, care, suitability, testing, and technical features clearly and accurately.

Build strong working relationships with suppliers, founders, designers, and makers.

Investigate the people, ideas, history, craft, materials, and wider context behind relevant products and brands.

Assess sources carefully, question unsupported claims, identify contradictions, and check facts.

Review older website content and improve information that is missing, unclear, outdated, repetitive, or no longer good enough.

Listen to questions and conversations through customer service, reviews, social media, and the Babipur Hangout.

Speak with customers and suppliers, conduct useful market research, and represent Babipur professionally in relevant public conversations.

Identify repeated questions, gaps in understanding, and weaknesses in the customer journey, then turn them into useful website improvements.

Build search visibility naturally through original research, helpful answers, clear page structure, search intent, metadata, and internal linking.

Use website and search information to identify content that needs creating or improving.

Adapt product and brand knowledge for newsletters, social media, community posts, campaigns, and video scripts.

Brief photographers and video producers on what a customer needs to see and which products, details, or moments should be captured.

SEO is an important part of the work, but we are not looking for somebody who writes for search engines at the expense of people. Search visibility should come from useful original content, genuine knowledge, clear structure, and information that deserves to be found.

Recognising opportunities

Some of Babipur’s most distinctive content begins with noticing something happening within the business.

If a large, exciting delivery pulls up outside, we want you to recognise that a story may be unfolding. You might go into the warehouse with one of our photographers, decide what would be useful to capture, speak to the people receiving and opening it, gather the interesting details, and work out what the finished content could become.

It might lead to a behind-the-scenes article, newsletter, launch story, social posts, or new material for a brand or collection page. A supplier visit, customer question, archive photograph, unusual product detail, or conversation during a photoshoot could reveal a similar opportunity.

Workplace and team

This is a workplace-based role at Babipur in Porthmadog. Being present around our products, deliveries, warehouse, photographers, customers, and wider team is an important part of the job. Regular remote or hybrid working is therefore not part of the advertised role.

Occasional flexibility may be agreed where it is compatible with the work, but applicants should expect their usual place of work to be Babipur.

Everyone at Babipur has a clear area of responsibility, but we do not work in narrow boxes. There will be times when you need to help gather products, prepare information for a photoshoot, check something with a supplier, proof an urgent email, or help the team complete a launch.

The role offers considerable trust and autonomy, direct access to interesting products and the people behind them, and the opportunity to shape content across an established ecommerce website and a large, engaged customer community.

Please consider whether the role suits you

This is unlikely to be the right position if:

You need substantial training before producing publishable professional work.

Requirements

You want a remote or routinely hybrid role.

Your experience is mainly scheduling social posts, filling content templates, or lightly rewriting supplier descriptions.

You mainly want to write campaigns, articles, or social content and would struggle to maintain quality during long periods of detailed product-description work.
