Job description
We are seeking a Clinical Imaging Ancillary Applications Support Engineer to support a large, multi-market health system engagement spanning Radiology, Cardiology, and Ancillary imaging ecosystems. This role provides Tier 2/3 application support, incident and problem management, and lifecycle support for the ancillary applications that surround the core PACS/VNA environment - including dictation/reporting, advanced visualization, dose management, orthopedic templating, ECG management, and hemodynamics-adjacent systems. While the position is remote, the engineer must be available to travel across the country on short notice to support critical activities such as go-lives, PACS consolidation waves, data migrations, knowledge transfer sessions, and major incident response. Key Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for clinical imaging ancillary applications across Radiology and Cardiology service lines, including incident triage, root cause analysis, and problem resolution within defined SLAs.
-
Support, maintain, and troubleshoot applications such as:
- Dictation and reporting platforms (e.g., Nuance PowerScribe 360/One, Fluency for Imaging)
- Advanced visualization / 3D post-processing (e.g., TeraRecon, Vitrea, syngo.via, IntelliSpace Portal)
- Radiation dose monitoring (e.g., Bayer Radimetrics, DoseWatch, Imalogix)
- Orthopedic templating (e.g., Medstrat, OrthoView, TraumaCad)
- ECG management (e.g., GE MUSE, Philips IntelliSpace ECG)
- Contrast injector informatics, image sharing/CD burning (e.g., PowerShare, Ambra, LifeImage), and peer review/QA tools
- Manage HL7 and DICOM interface issues between ancillary applications, PACS/VNA, EMR (Epic Radiant/Cupid), and enterprise integration engines; coordinate with interface and EMR teams for resolution.
- Execute application upgrades, patching, certificate renewals, server migrations, and vendor-coordinated maintenance with change management discipline (CAB submissions, rollback plans, validation).
- Participate in knowledge transfer (KT) activities from incumbent teams; document runbooks, SOPs, known-error databases, and configuration baselines.
- Support PACS consolidation and migration waves, including ancillary application reconfiguration, testing, and go-live command center coverage.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors on escalations, defect tracking, and root cause analysis; manage vendor tickets to closure.
- Provide on-call and after-hours support on a rotational basis as part of a 24×7 support model; travel on-site for critical events as required.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and organizational security policies; support audit and access review activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field - or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5+ years supporting clinical imaging applications in a hospital or multi-facility health system environment.
- Hands-on experience with at least two of the following categories: dictation/reporting (PowerScribe strongly preferred), advanced visualization, dose monitoring, orthopedic templating, or ECG management.
- Strong working knowledge of DICOM (modality worklist, store/query-retrieve, routing) and HL7 v2 (ORM/ORU/ADT/SIU) message flows and troubleshooting.
- Experience integrating imaging applications with Epic (Radiant and/or Cupid) or comparable EMR platforms.
- Familiarity with Windows Server administration, SQL queries for troubleshooting, service accounts, and certificate management in a clinical application context.
- Experience working in an ITIL-based environment (incident, problem, change) using ServiceNow or a comparable ITSM platform.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work directly with radiologists, cardiologists, technologists, and clinical operations leaders during high-pressure events.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationwide as needed (may include short-notice travel for go-lives, migrations, and critical incident support)., Bachelors Range of Year Experience-Max Year 10
