Job description

Our client is a public-sector organization dedicated to supporting agriculture, natural resources, and commerce throughout Arizona. Its work touches communities and businesses statewide, with a focus on protecting vital resources, supporting industry, maintaining regulatory standards, and providing essential services to the public., We are seeking an Expert-Level Drupal Developer to take full technical ownership of web application development, user interface implementation, accessibility compliance, quality assurance, and remediation efforts. This is an opportunity for an experienced Drupal professional to play a hands-on role in building and improving highly accessible digital experiences while working closely with a Product Owner and business stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will bring deep Drupal expertise along with a strong understanding of ADA accessibility requirements and WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards. Because this is a highly autonomous role, you should be comfortable moving from back-end development and architecture through front-end implementation, accessibility testing, troubleshooting, and final quality validation. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Design, develop, and maintain custom Drupal 10/11 modules and themes using PHP, Twig, CSS/SASS, and modern web development practices.
  • Build and enhance full-stack web applications, including responsive interfaces, third-party API integrations, application workflows, and database optimization using technologies such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Lead accessibility implementation and remediation, ensuring complex forms, interactive components, dynamic content, and custom applications meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements and applicable ADA standards.
  • Perform comprehensive technical QA, including cross-browser testing, keyboard-only navigation, screen reader validation, and end-to-end testing before presenting completed work for Product Owner review.
  • Optimize and maintain Drupal environments through performance tuning, caching strategies, security updates, code reviews, site upgrades, content migrations, and contributed-module maintenance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional Drupal development experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Drupal 10/11 and custom module/theme development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements and WCAG 2.2 Level AA, including accessibility considerations for authentication, focus management, target sizing, keyboard interaction, and dynamic interfaces.
  • Strong proficiency with PHP, Twig, HTML5, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, Drupal architecture, APIs, and relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with assistive technology testing, including JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver, as well as keyboard-only and screen magnification testing.
  • Ability to work independently and apply coding standards, semantic HTML, WAI-ARIA, accessible UI/UX practices, and structured quality assurance throughout the development lifecycle.

Benefits & conditions

  • This is a temporary contract opportunity
  • Overtime is expected
  • This role requires a highly self-directed developer who can own development, accessibility remediation, and QA without relying on separate design or testing teams.
