Job description

Autodesk is hiring for a Principal Software Developer: Kubernetes / Service Mesh in Cloud Platform Engineering.

We are looking for an experienced engineer to help develop and deploy container based technologies to support existing/future platform needs for our internal developer platform.

Operational resilience and scalability are top priorities - this role will involve maximising the available solutions through thoughtful design, deployment and configuration, and working closely with internal customers to understand the characteristic’s of their services.

The core technologies used by our platform team today include Kubernetes, Istio, Envoy, and OTel.

You will report to an Engineer Manager in Ireland. This role is located in Ireland. Hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of Autodesk’s internal developer platform, and work with talented internal engineering teams to help them deploy to a multi-cloud environment using cloud-native orchestration, deployment and monitoring technologies
  • Work with the upstream community to improve and optimise Kubernetes, Istio, and Envoy for large scale, high uptime deployments
  • Use Kubernetes and Istio Service Mesh to deliver innovative service connectivity features to internal services - supporting high availability, rapid prototyping, zero-downtime upgrades, and continuous deployment

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in cloud operations, site reliability engineering, or a similar role, with a focus on observability and cloud monitoring solutions
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and services specifically AWS.
  • 5+ years experience programming language(s) such as Python or Go
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform
  • Strong experience with operating server orchestration solutions in production
  • Strong analytical, with the ability to analyze complex system behavior, identify performance bottlenecks, and recommend optimization strategies
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, * Ability to communicate effectively to different customers (product management, team mates, external teams using our platform)
  • Strong technical skills in utilizing advanced monitoring tools and techniques to gain deep insights into system metrics, logs, and traces, enabling and optimization
  • You excel in analyzing and interpreting complex system behavior, identifying patterns, trends, and optimization opportunities to enhance system reliability and scalability
  • You are proactive in staying updated with the latest trends and innovations in observability and cloud monitoring technologies, continually evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies to enhance observability capabilities
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to drive observability initiatives and improvements that enhance overall system reliability and performance
