Job description

To enable this, CTPSE has established a dedicated and growing ICT Team that delivers reliable, secure technology services alongside specialist and bespoke solutions that support modern policing. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is a key, hands-on role within this team, responsible for developing, maintaining, and continuously improving core infrastructure to ensure the organisation operates safely, securely, and efficiently., This is a rare opportunity to join a small but ambitious ICT team, supporting nationally important policing operations. We offer a supportive environment where enthusiasm is valued, learning is encouraged, while working with technologies that genuinely make a difference.

This role will require the post holder to travel frequently around the Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and Thames Valley policing areas using provided transport, therefore a UK driving licence is essential.

You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. You will also be required to perform on-call arrangements for immediate response as required across the South East region

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level DV together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National andhave resided in the UK for the past ten years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.

Please be aware that if successful there are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post.

Requirements

This role is suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys working directly with technology and making a tangible difference. You will lead on diagnosing and resolving complex infrastructure issues, ensuring services are restored within agreed SLAs, and delivering new or improved infrastructure solutions to defined technical standards and project timelines. A high level of ownership, attention to detail, and commitment to quality is essential.

You will be a strong team contributor with excellent communication skills, professionalism, and a collaborative approach, while also being comfortable working independently and taking technical ownership. The role includes travel across the South East, working remotely from base, and engaging confidently with colleagues and stakeholders on site.

The work is practical and varied, including equipment troubleshooting, installations, and work within server rooms and specialist technical environments. You will also be expected to support the wider ICT team when needed, occasionally assisting with desktop support or office refits during periods of increased demand. Flexibility, a willingness to get involved, and adherence to safety procedures are key; specialist tools and PPE will be provided where required.

You’ll also have proven experience supporting and building/managing ICT networks including inter-site links, server and data infrastructure and cryptography, and be highly confident with scoping, planning and leading the delivering technical solutions to agreed standards.
