Job description
An employer in the Hyderabad India area is seeking an experienced Sr Lab Network Engineer to design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot complex lab network environments that support development, testing, and validation of networking and systems software. This role requires strong hands-on expertise with networking technologies, lab infrastructure, automation, and cross functional collaboration. This role is responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable lab network environments that support engineering, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams. The individual will configure and manage a variety of network infrastructure components, including switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers, while supporting Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF, VLANs, VXLAN, and network virtualization technologies. They will troubleshoot complex network, hardware, and connectivity issues within lab environments and develop automation solutions for lab provisioning, configuration, and validation using scripting and automation tools. Additional responsibilities include managing the lab hardware lifecycle through rack-and-stack activities, cabling, power management, and inventory tracking. The role requires close collaboration with software, systems, and test teams to enable efficient development and testing workflows, as well as maintaining thorough documentation of lab designs, procedures, and operational best practices. The individual will also participate in on-call rotations and escalation support as needed to ensure the reliability and availability of lab infrastructure.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in network engineering or lab infrastructure roles
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and switching concepts
- Hands-on experience with enterprise networking hardware (e.g., Cisco, Arista, Juniper, or similar)
- Proficiency in Linux system administration
- Experience with automation/scripting (Python, Bash, Ansible, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting lab environments for networking or systems software development
- Familiarity with container networking, virtualization (VMware, KVM), and cloud networking concepts
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation frameworks
- Exposure to network security concepts and tools
- Experience working across global teams and time zones
