Department Profile

  • LCMS Communications is responsible for informing, reporting, and interpreting, in consultation with applicable officers and boards, the Synod’s purpose, program and positions to its members and for promoting an increased understanding of the same to the public.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Web Services, * This position is responsible for providing strategic architectural direction for the rebuilding of LCMS.org and for supporting the long term development of Synodwide digital systems. Duties include information architecture, platform strategy, system integration, and governance planning.
  • Leads the information architecture design for the LCMS.org rebuild.
  • Develops platform strategy and evaluates options for CMS and related systems.
  • Designs system integration approaches for website, Salesforce, and other platforms.
  • Advises on Synodwide digital architecture.
  • Establishes governance frameworks for content, data flow, and platform use.
  • Partners with internal teams and vendors.
  • Assists in evaluating hosting environments and cloud platforms.
  • Provides architectural documentation and technical guidance.
  • Works collaboratively across departments.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Web development?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Active member of an LCMS congregation preferred but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, digital strategy, or a related field preferred.
  • Seven years or more experience in web development with demonstrated experience in web architecture and platform strategy.
  • Five years or more of hands on Drupal development in an enterprise context.
  • Seven years or more working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Experience with integrating REST and SOAP APIs into Drupal.
  • Experience designing and managing the SDLC, including CI/CD, source control, and other components.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Proficiency with Drupal configuration management
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or AWS/Azure preferred.
  • Ability to develop documentation and architectural standards.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to function independently and within cross functional teams.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
