Job description

This is a business-facing analytics role where you’ll sit between commercial and operational teams and the technical data function. You’ll spend your time understanding what different teams are trying to achieve, investigating the numbers behind their questions and creating reporting and insight that genuinely helps them.

It’s an opportunity for someone who enjoys more than simply producing reports. You’ll be encouraged to challenge the question being asked, understand the wider business context and find better ways of delivering the information stakeholders need.

You’ll also have the opportunity to influence how reporting develops across the organisation, helping move teams away from repetitive manual analysis towards more consistent, scalable and self-service reporting.

The Role

  • Partnering with teams across the organisation to understand what information they need to support operational and commercial decisions
  • Turning sometimes broad or unclear business questions into practical analytical solutions
  • Creating and developing dashboards, management information and reporting using Power BI and other BI platforms
  • Using SQL to investigate datasets, identify trends, answer questions and uncover areas requiring further investigation
  • Bringing together information from different systems and databases to create a clearer picture of business performance
  • Carrying out one-off analysis to support projects, investigations and important business decisions
  • Building knowledge of how different areas of the organisation operate and how their data can be used to measure performance
  • Helping stakeholders understand what the numbers are actually telling them, including highlighting any limitations or assumptions behind the analysis
  • Spotting opportunities to replace repetitive spreadsheets and manual reporting with more efficient, automated solutions
  • Working with the technical data team to improve the datasets, structures and processes that sit behind business reporting
  • Helping establish consistent definitions for key measures so that different teams are working from the same information
  • Keeping reporting logic and important data assumptions clearly documented
  • Supporting wider projects by analysing information, testing assumptions and providing evidence to support recommendations
  • Contributing ideas around how the organisation can make better use of its data over time, This is a particularly good opportunity for an analyst who wants to have more influence than simply producing reports to specification.

The organisation is actively developing its data capability, so you’ll have the opportunity to help shape how reporting and insight are delivered rather than inheriting a fixed process and simply maintaining it.

You’ll work with a broad range of stakeholders and datasets, giving you exposure to different areas of the business while developing your technical and commercial understanding.

You’ll also have the opportunity to:

  • Play a key role in improving how data is used across the organisation
  • Work closely with experienced data and technology professionals
  • Influence the development of reporting and BI solutions
  • Reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets and repetitive reporting
  • Help establish better standards around data and reporting
  • Work on projects with a genuine impact on business performance
  • Develop your skills across both technical analytics and stakeholder engagement
  • Gain broader exposure to modern data platforms and analytical practices

What Success Looks Like

Within the role, you’ll become someone that business teams can rely on when they need to understand what the data is saying and what they should do with it.

You’ll help create a more consistent approach to reporting, reduce unnecessary manual work and identify opportunities to turn recurring questions into better long-term solutions.

Just as importantly, you’ll help strengthen the relationship between the business and the technical data function, ensuring that development work is focused on solving genuine business problems rather than simply responding to individual reporting requests.

Interested?

If you’re a BI & Insight Analyst who enjoys combining strong technical skills with commercial thinking and stakeholder engagement, this could be an excellent opportunity to join an organisation that is genuinely investing in its data function.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone who enjoys getting underneath the question rather than simply delivering the first report they’re asked for.

You’ll be comfortable working with stakeholders who may not always know exactly what they need, and you’ll have the analytical ability to turn those conversations into something useful.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Strong commercial experience using SQL to investigate and manipulate data
  • Experience working with relational databases and extracting information from multiple sources
  • A background in BI, reporting, data analysis or business intelligence
  • Hands-on experience creating dashboards and reporting solutions, ideally using Power BI
  • The ability to take complex or messy datasets and turn them into meaningful information
  • Strong analytical thinking and a naturally investigative approach
  • Good attention to detail and a healthy scepticism when working with data
  • The ability to explain technical findings clearly to people without a technical background
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence working with people across different areas of a business
  • The ability to question assumptions and challenge requirements in a constructive way
  • A pragmatic approach - you’ll understand that the best analytical solution isn’t always the most complicated one
  • The confidence to work independently while also collaborating closely with technical data specialists

Experience with cloud data platforms, data warehouses or modern data architectures would be useful, as would exposure to tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL or Synapse.

Experience working with Jira or similar workflow tools would also be advantageous.
