Job description

The Clinical Engineering Team Lead provides day-to-day leadership, technical direction, and operational support for the Clinical Engineering department. This position coordinates the maintenance, inspection, repair, testing, and lifecycle management of medical equipment to support safe, reliable, and compliant patient care. The Team Lead serves as a key liaison between Clinical Engineering, nursing, physicians, hospital leadership, Information Technology, vendors, and other clinical departments.

The Team Lead is responsible for helping ensure that equipment is properly maintained, work is completed according to established policies and regulatory requirements, and technicians receive appropriate guidance and support. The position may also provide hands-on technical support for complex medical equipment, including diagnostic imaging, patient monitoring, life-support, surgical, and other clinical systems., * Maintain a strong focus on patient and staff safety.

  • Ensure assigned preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities are completed accurately and on time.

  • Provide effective leadership and technical support to Clinical Engineering staff.

  • Maintain accurate and complete equipment documentation.

  • Promote compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.

  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, workflow, and departmental efficiency.

  • Develop positive relationships with clinical departments and hospital leadership.

  • Support continuous professional development and technical competency within the Clinical Engineering team.

Working Conditions

  • Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Clinical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, military training, technical training, and professional experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with biomedical/clinical equipment or in a Clinical Engineering environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair medical equipment.

  • Previous leadership, lead technician, supervisory, or mentoring experience preferred., * Strong biomedical equipment troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Leadership and team-building abilities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Prioritize work based on patient safety and clinical needs.

  • Work independently while supporting department goals.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation practices.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

  • Professional judgment when determining equipment safety and operational status.

  • Ability to train and mentor technicians with varying levels of experience.

  • Commitment to patient safety and quality healthcare delivery.

Department Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, service documentation, and manufacturer procedures.

  • Strong computer skills and experience working with CMMS or computerized equipment management systems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical staff, leadership, vendors, and technical personnel.
