Job description
A specialist secure communications organisation is looking for an experienced Security Engineer to take responsibility for the through-life cybersecurity of its internal and customer networks.
This is a hands-on position requiring strong Cisco and Juniper network security experience, alongside practical knowledge of SIEM, IDS/IPS, vulnerability management, penetration testing and incident response.
The successful candidate will act as a key technical authority for network and device security, supporting internal engineering teams and customers operating within secure, international communications environments., * Act as a technical centre of excellence for network and device security.
- Develop and implement information security plans, policies, procedures and technical controls.
- Design, build, test, commission and troubleshoot security solutions across internal and customer networks.
- Configure and support Cisco firewalls, routers and switches, alongside Juniper network platforms.
- Deploy and manage SIEM, IDS/IPS and other network security technologies.
- Monitor network activity, security alerts and third-party intelligence to provide an accurate view of current threats and vulnerabilities.
- Investigate and resolve security incidents raised by employees, customers, monitoring tools and external security partners.
- Take ownership of cybersecurity issues and drive them through to satisfactory resolution.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and recommend appropriate technical and procedural improvements.
- Support penetration-testing activities and evaluate the findings of security assessments.
- Provide third-line technical support for complex network security incidents.
- Advise on the secure design and management of internal, customer and global networks.
- Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, technical standards and operational guidelines.
- Produce network diagrams, configuration documentation, support guides and incident records.
- Work closely with IT, Enterprise Engineering, Hub Engineering, compliance teams, customers, manufacturers and suppliers.
- Train and support colleagues in cybersecurity awareness, threat management and secure operational practices.
- Assist with maintenance planning, service outages and urgent out-of-hours incidents when required.
Requirements
Essential Experience:
- At least five years of hands-on experience across multiple networks, including designing and managing secure network environments.
- Strong practical experience with Cisco firewalls, routers and switches.
- Hands-on experience working with Juniper network platforms.
- Experience designing, implementing or supporting SIEM and IDS/IPS solutions.
- Practical knowledge of vulnerability management and remediation.
- Experience using or supporting penetration-testing tools.
- Knowledge of computer-forensics tools and incident-investigation processes.
- Good understanding of ISO 27001, GDPR and recognised information security practices.
- Experience developing and maintaining security policies, procedures, standards and technical documentation.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network security problems and provide effective third-line support.
- Strong customer-support skills, including the ability to explain technical security issues to customers, colleagues and senior management.
- Proactive, organised and able to take ownership of competing priorities.
- Willingness to provide emergency or out-of-hours support when necessary.
Desirable Criteria:
- Telecommunications, satellite communications, VSAT or maritime communications experience.
- Experience supporting UK government, MOD or other highly secure networks.
- Relevant cybersecurity or networking certifications.
- Experience supporting international customer networks or secure communications infrastructure.
Benefits & conditions
Due to the nature of the organisation’s work and secure customer base, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must come from a NATO country background.
- Must have lived and worked in the UK for the most recent 5 consecutive years.
- Must be eligible and willing to undergo UK security vetting, including SC or DV where required.
- Be able to work fully onsite in Redhill for the first six months.
