Job description

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.

Requirements

  • STEM degree
  • Comfortable working with statistics, life-data models, and interpreting reliability metrics such as MTBF and MTTR.
  • Skilled at diagnosing issues through root-cause analysis, FMEA, and fault-tree techniques.
  • Able to use reliability-analysis software (e.g., ReliaSoft, MATLAB, Python) to predict performance and assess maintainability

Desired Skills

  • Statistical analysis & probability theory (MTBF, Weibull, log-normal)
  • Failure analysis methods (RCA, FMEA/FMECA, Fault/Event Tree)
  • Reliability modeling tools (ReliaSoftWeibull++, BlockSim, ALTA) and data-analysis languages (MATLAB, Python, R)
  • Design of Experiments (DOE) and accelerated life-testing techniques
  • Maintainability metrics (MTTR, MAM) and logistic support analysis (LML, LCC)
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (MIL-STD-1629, MIL-STD-217F, IEC62087, NASA-STD-8739.2)
  • System-level understanding (hardware schematics, BOMs, interface control documents)
  • Basic software reliability concepts for embedded/firmware systems
  • Project and configuration management (requirements traceability, change control, risk management)
  • Clear technical writing and presentation skills for reports, RCA summaries, and training material
  • Effective communication and teamwork across design, test, manufacturing, and logistics functions
  • Safety awareness and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Understands how design, logistics, and human factors affect both reliability and maintainability throughout the product life cycle.
