Job description
We are looking for an experienced Database Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premises) to design, optimize, and maintain high-performance database systems. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on knowledge of SQL optimization, SQL Server internals, and performance troubleshooting., * Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases in an on-premises environment.
- Write and optimize complex T-SQL queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) for high performance.
- Perform advanced query tuning, indexing strategies, and statistics management.
- Analyze and resolve performance issues related to locking, blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention.
- Monitor and tune SQL Server internals including memory management, Page Life Expectancy (PLE), buffer pool, and wait statistics.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot database performance problems using execution plans, DMVs, Extended Events, and system monitoring tools.
- Maintain database structure, tables, indexes, partitions, and overall database health.
- Implement best practices for database design, normalization, and data integrity.
- Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure optimal database performance and availability.
- Document database designs, performance issues, and resolution steps.
Requirements
- Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premises).
- Excellent T-SQL skills with proven experience in query optimization (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, and complex SELECT statements).
- Deep knowledge of indexing strategies, statistics, and query execution plans.
- Solid understanding of SQL Server internals (memory architecture, buffer pool, Page Life Expectancy, tempdb, etc.).
- Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving locking, blocking, and deadlock issues.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of database structure, table design, and overall database architecture.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SQL Server Always On, Clustering, or High Availability solutions.
- Exposure to performance baseline and capacity planning.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of database issues.
- Good communication skills to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
