Job description

We are looking for an experienced Database Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premises) to design, optimize, and maintain high-performance database systems. The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on knowledge of SQL optimization, SQL Server internals, and performance troubleshooting., * Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases in an on-premises environment.

  • Write and optimize complex T-SQL queries (SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) for high performance.
  • Perform advanced query tuning, indexing strategies, and statistics management.
  • Analyze and resolve performance issues related to locking, blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention.
  • Monitor and tune SQL Server internals including memory management, Page Life Expectancy (PLE), buffer pool, and wait statistics.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database performance problems using execution plans, DMVs, Extended Events, and system monitoring tools.
  • Maintain database structure, tables, indexes, partitions, and overall database health.
  • Implement best practices for database design, normalization, and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to ensure optimal database performance and availability.
  • Document database designs, performance issues, and resolution steps.

Requirements

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (On-Premises).
  • Excellent T-SQL skills with proven experience in query optimization (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, and complex SELECT statements).
  • Deep knowledge of indexing strategies, statistics, and query execution plans.
  • Solid understanding of SQL Server internals (memory architecture, buffer pool, Page Life Expectancy, tempdb, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving locking, blocking, and deadlock issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Good understanding of database structure, table design, and overall database architecture.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SQL Server Always On, Clustering, or High Availability solutions.
  • Exposure to performance baseline and capacity planning.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of database issues.
  • Good communication skills to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
