Sr Infrastructure Storage and Backup Engineer

This position is responsible for the architecture, engineering, implementation, and support of enterprise storage, backup, recovery, and data protection platforms. This role leads the design and evolution of highly available, secure, and scalable storage solutions supporting business-critical applications across the enterprise. This role also includes engineering activities in support of day-to-day management of SAN, NAS, Backup and other Storage technologies. They work closely with other key infrastructure teams (server operating system (Linux/windows), server planning, database, and networking) to build, maintain, and support highly scalable, reliable, and resilient data storage systems.

• Lead the design, implementation, support, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage, backup, recovery, and data protection platforms.
• Develop and maintain highly available storage architectures supporting critical business and railroad operations.
• Drive resiliency, disaster recovery, cyber recovery, and business continuity capabilities across infrastructure platforms.
• Partner with server, database, networking, cloud, security, and application teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
• Develop technical recommendations and roadmaps related to storage modernization, capacity planning, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
• Establish engineering standards, operational practices, and automation solutions that improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership for complex infrastructure initiatives from architecture through implementation and operational support.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex cross-functional issues involving storage, operating systems, virtualization, networking, and applications.
• Identify opportunities to leverage automation and infrastructure-as-code approaches to reduce operational risk and improve service delivery.
• Demonstrate subject matter expertise while mentoring and transferring knowledge to other engineers.
• Perform complex technical work independently while driving priorities and delivering high-quality solutions on time.
• Provide information, analysis, and technical recommendations to support business and technology decision making.

• 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, provisioning, and supporting enterprise SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Backup platforms.
• Experience with SAN fabric technologies including Brocade and Cisco.
• Experience supporting enterprise storage platforms including Hitachi VSP, Infinity, NetApp, EMC, IBM, HP, and related technologies.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise storage, backup, and recovery solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence technology decisions across multiple teams.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex infrastructure issues and lead support calls.
• Excellent customer service skills and a proven ability to demonstrate a customer-responsive approach.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop presentations, technical diagrams, status reports, and executive-level communications.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a diverse workload.
• Proven technical leadership coupled with a willingness to participate in day-to-day operational support activities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, provisioning, and supporting enterprise SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Backup platforms.
• Experience supporting enterprise object storage solutions including Hitachi HCP and MinIO.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting backup and recovery platforms including Commvault, RMAN, NetBackup, snapshot management, replication, and cyber recovery solutions.
• Experience with storage performance analysis, workload optimization, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
• Experience with disaster recovery, business continuity, and enterprise data protection strategies.
• Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure environments with high availability requirements.
• Experience integrating storage and backup solutions with virtualization platforms including VMware, Hyper-V, and KVM.
• Experience with cloud storage and data protection services in AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Experience developing automation solutions utilizing Python, Shell, PowerShell, APIs, Ansible, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Operational knowledge of Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NFS, SMB/CIFS, S3, SAS, SATA, RAID, NVMe, Flash technologies, storage replication, and SAN virtualization
