Job description

Join Airservices Australia’s Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP) team as a Senior Network Security Engineer, where you’ll apply your expertise to support, secure and enhance critical network infrastructure. Working across network security design, implementation, operational support and continuous improvement, you’ll contribute to the delivery of a major network modernisation program transitioning legacy technologies to a modern IP-based network. The Role & The Team As a Senior Network Security Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and continuously improving secure enterprise network infrastructure that supports Airservices’ highly available operational environments. You will provide specialist expertise across network security technologies, lead technical investigations, contribute to major transformation initiatives, and partner closely with engineering teams, project delivery teams, vendors, operational stakeholders and system technical advisors to ensure security, reliability and compliance outcomes are achieved. The role reports to the Network Services Lead and operates within the Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP) team. The NTP team delivers and supports the critical network and telecommunications services that underpin Airservices’ operational and corporate environments. The team is currently driving a major network modernisation program and is passionate about innovation, technical excellence and maintaining the safety and integrity of Australia’s aviation network. People enjoy working in this team because they solve complex challenges, work with leading technologies and contribute to nationally significant outcomes. You will also participate in an on-call roster, supporting the resolution of critical network faults and service incidents as required

Requirements

You are an experienced Network Security Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in large-scale, mission-critical environments. You bring strong problem-solving skills, sound technical judgement and the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders. You take ownership of your work, demonstrate initiative in identifying and resolving issues before they become problems, and approach challenges with a positive, can-do attitude. Comfortable working independently, you thrive in fast-paced operational environments and are committed to delivering secure, resilient and high-performing network services. The Successful Applicant Will Have

  • Demonstrated experience (typically 7+ years) supporting and maintaining complex enterprise network security environments.
  • Strong technical expertise across network security technologies including NGFW, BGP, WAF, IPS/IDS, VPN, traffic engineering, load balancing, web proxy and remote access solutions.
  • Knowledge of Australian Government security frameworks, including the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
  • Experience working within highly available 24/7 operational environments.
  • Experience applying systems engineering, governance and change management principles.
  • Proven ability to identify, investigate and mitigate security vulnerabilities and security incidents.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound recommendations and drive continuous improvement. Qualifications & Experience

  • A recognised Diploma/Degree in Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) Security Clearance.
  • Industry certifications across technologies such as Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, F5 or Infoblox, or equivalent practical industry experience. Desirable

  • AWS Advanced Networking and/or Security certifications.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications.
  • CISSP®, ISSEP®, CPEng or RPEng accreditation.
  • Degree qualifications in Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline. Security Clearance To be eligible to apply, you must be an Australian citizen as an AGSVA security clearance is required for this role.
