Job description
We’re hiring a Network Engineer to join Appvia on a new secure public sector engagement focused on live network operations, support, and continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll support and maintain complex network infrastructure, troubleshoot incidents, implement changes, and help improve the reliability and performance of critical services.
The engagement is more operational and managed-service focused than many of Appvia’s traditional platform engineering projects, but you’ll also have the opportunity to broaden your cloud, automation, and platform engineering skills over time as part of your progression within Appvia.

Important
You must hold active UK Security Clearance (SC). NPPV3 clearance is highly desirable., * Support and maintain production network infrastructure across secure environments
- Troubleshoot network incidents, connectivity issues, and performance problems
- Implement planned network changes safely and effectively
- Support routing, switching, firewalling, VPN, and load-balancing technologies
- Contribute to network upgrades, migrations, optimisation, and continuous improvement
- Monitor network health and performance using observability and monitoring tooling
- Participate in root-cause analysis and problem management
- Maintain technical documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures
- Collaborate with engineering, service management, and customer teams
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, reliability, resilience, and security
Technical Skills
Core technologies / experience:
- Cisco networking
- BGP / OSPF
- VLANs / VRFs
- MPLS
- Firewalls such as Palo Alto or Check Point
- VPN / IPSec
- Load balancing
- Network monitoring and observability
- Enterprise networking in production environments
Nice to have:
- Cisco ACI / Nexus
- Cisco SD-WAN / SDA
- AWS networking - VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53
- Azure networking - VNets, ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall
- F5 Big-IP
- Splunk, SolarWinds, or NetBox
- Python, Ansible, or Terraform
- CCNA / CCNP or equivalent certification
- NPPV3 clearance
Requirements
You are a hands-on Network Engineer comfortable supporting complex, high-availability environments and working through technical issues in a structured and methodical way.
You will bring:
- Strong experience supporting enterprise network environments
- Good knowledge of routing and switching technologies
- Experience with Cisco networking technologies
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs, NAT, ACLs, and secure connectivity
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-resolution skills
- Understanding of resilient and highly available network design
- Experience working in live service, operational, or managed-service environments
- Clear communication skills and confidence working with technical teams and stakeholders
- A proactive, customer-focused approach
- Active UK SC clearance
