Job description

  • Are you the engineer colleagues turn to when architecture decisions get complex, someone who can explain why an approach works just as well as they can build it?
  • Do you want to work on international projects at the largest technology-driven organisations in the Netherlands and Europe, alongside colleagues who are at the same level as you?
  • And do you say yes to a permanent contract from day one, €5,000 training budget, 4 days remote and an environment where you get together with peers every two weeks to learn from each other?

Then read on!

Your employer: an organisation growing into an international thought leader in software engineering

This is not your average organisation. This is a group of experienced software engineers who are deployed together at technology-driven companies across the Netherlands and Europe. Think top 500. Organisations where software is the core of the business, not an afterthought. They are currently expanding internationally and building an increasingly strong position as a thought leader in software engineering.

You’ll work here with international colleagues on projects in sectors like fintech, mobility, energy, e-commerce and healthcare. Platforms used daily by millions of people, where scale and reliability are everyday reality. Every two weeks, engineers come together to share knowledge: new frameworks, architecture patterns, insights from conferences. Colleagues speak at international events, write technical blogs and contribute to open source. Not as a marketing exercise, but because they can’t help themselves.

The level of your colleagues here is something you’ll rarely find anywhere else. People who operate at the highest technical level, but also know how to communicate with clients and create real impact. You’ll build a vast network of peers and organisations that stays with you for the rest of your career. The people who eventually leave? They become CTOs at scale-ups, start their own software companies, or go independent and get hired straight back by the organisations they previously worked with.

Your role: Senior / Lead Kotlin Software Engineer Amsterdam

You and your squad are brought in to make the difference. You bring innovation, knowledge and engineering best practices that the organisation doesn’t have in-house. As a senior or lead engineer, you set the direction: from architecture decisions and platform strategy to the way teams design, build and deploy software. You help organisations structurally improve the way they build software.

As a Kotlin engineer, you deliberately choose the language that best solves the problem. Kotlin is increasingly at the core of new projects, but depending on the challenge you’ll valso work with Java, Go, Python, Scala or TypeScript. From system design and architecture to production code, cloud-native platforms, distributed systems, event-driven architectures and increasingly AI-powered applications.

Projects are long-term. Often a year or more. You see your work reflected in production, build relationships with the people at the client, and combine that with 4 days working from home. Real impact with a work-life balance that’s rare in this industry.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional experience as a software engineer
  • Strong experience with Kotlin, Java, Scala or another JVM language
  • Demonstrable experience with at least two programming languages in production
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures and preferably Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with distributed systems and the challenges of scalable platforms
  • You think beyond the code of today and contribute to architecture and design
  • Strong communication skills. You work directly with clients
  • Bonus points that get us excited
  • Experience with event-driven or reactive architectures
  • Contributions to open source or speaking at meetups and conferences
  • Experience technically guiding other engineers
  • Interest in AI/ML applications within software engineering

Benefits & conditions

Build the platforms behind the largest organizations in the Netherlands and Europe Kotlin, Distributed Systems, Cloud Native, AI Up to €95.000 4 days remote work per week, * Between €85,000 and €95,000 based on experience and impact
