Job description
The Mid-Level Computer Scientist develops, tests, and sustains software systems and data pipelines underpinning DIA’s enterprise OBI production environment. Working in a SAFe Agile team alongside senior engineers and ontologists, this role contributes across the full SDLC - from feature development through testing, deployment, and O&M. All solutions integrate into DIA’s IT environment (Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS, Tableau).
Duties may include:
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software applications, APIs, microservices, and data pipelines supporting DIA’s MARS OBI platform and associated analytic workflows.
- Build and maintain ETL pipelines using Apache NiFi, Databricks, Python, or SQL to ingest, transform, normalize, and load structured and unstructured intelligence datasets into the MARS triple store.
- Develop and maintain SPARQL queries, SHACL validation shapes, and RDF/OWL mapping rules per Ontology & Knowledge Modeling to enforce data quality and DIEKM/DICO semantic compliance.
- Implement and maintain containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, Fortify, SonarQube) containerization and infrastructure-as-code requirements.
- Develop and execute unit, integration, and regression test suites; participate in TEVV protocol execution for AI/ML components contributing to QAF deliverables.
- Maintain RMF documentation artifacts (SSPs, SARs, POA&Ms), STIG compliance baselines, and ATO support secure storage and distributed network access requirements.
- Ensure software deliverables comply with Government ownership requirements; maintain source code, version histories, container configurations, and deployment scripts obligations.
- Participate fully in SAFe ceremonies; commit to and deliver sprint objectives; contribute user stories aligned to backlog priorities.
- Author code documentation, API references, deployment runbooks, and release notes per Knowledge Management Strategy.
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM field AND 3-6 years of software engineering in classified IC or DoD environments
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or C#; experience with DIA baseline: Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS, Tableau
- Containerization experience: Docker and Kubernetes in DevSecOps environments
- CI/CD toolchain experience: Jenkins, GitLab CI, Fortify, or SonarQube
- SQL and NoSQL database experience; ETL pipeline development in classified environments
- RMF, ACAS, STIG, and software security compliance in classified DoD/IC environments
- Agile/SAFe software development environment experience
Desired:
- Experience with RDF triple stores, SPARQL, OWL, or SHACL constraint languages
- Familiarity with DIA MARS, Object-Based Production (OBP), or DIEKM/DICO standards
- Apache NiFi, Databricks, or Kafka data pipeline development experience
- Elastic Search, Kibana, or Splunk analytics and monitoring experience
- SAFe Agile certification or demonstrated program delivery experience
- REST API design and development experience
- Familiarity with NIST AI RMF or DoD AI Ethical Principles for AI-adjacent software development
Security Clearance:
- Active TS/SCI and the willingness to sit for a polygraph, if needed
