Job description

The Product Owner defines, delivers, and manages the lifecycle of products in a product portfolio. Leads the product team(s) developing the product(s). This position may be involved in the funding management and budgeting processes for the products and / or portfolio., * Define, maintain, and communicate the product roadmap, with an emphasis on mobile app features and enhancements

  • Build, groom, and prioritize the product backlog using Jira, continuously managing expectations with key stakeholders, including senior leadership
  • Demonstrate strong agile maturity by managing sprint planning and actively participating in all relevant agile ceremonies (sprint reviews, backlog refinement, retrospectives, etc.)
  • Work closely with development teams to ensure stories are well-defined, estimated, and ready for delivery
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer, worker, and user needs, particularly within mobile and digital experiences
  • Gather market and user feedback through customer interactions, usability testing, focus groups, and industry research to support ongoing and future development
  • Write clear and detailed functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and product documentation
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including developers, designers, analysts, and business partners to implement and deliver new products and features
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously with effective decision making to maintain delivery timelines
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and critical thinking skills through the product life cycle to ask challenging questions during dependency planning, PI planning, backlog refinement and throughout development
  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization to support vision, strategy alignment, tactical execution, and measurement
  • Communicate roadmap milestones, delivery timelines, and progress updates internally with key stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering or Other Related Degree
  • In addition to required degree, four (4) or more years related work experience
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree(s) AND four (4) or more years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND eight (8) or more years related work experience, * Mobile application product experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working as a Product Owner in a well-established agile environment
  • Hands-on experience using Jira for backlog management, sprint planning, and reporting

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years working in utility industry
  • Experience as a Product Analyst
  • Agile Product Owner certification
  • “Black Belt” Six Sigma certification
  • Experience with Jira
  • Experience with relevant new product or technology development experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with teams developing and shipping software’’
  • Experience with working on Push notifications, * Highly collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across teams and disciplines
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to product development teams
  • Demonstrated interest in technology and mobile products, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Ability to be self-directed, organized, and proactive while managing multiple workstreams
  • Solid understanding of the SDLC and experience working in an agile environment with bi-weekly releases
  • Experience operating in a KPI-driven environment, using metrics to track progress and outcomes

  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
