Job description

Health Information Technology and Services at University of Michigan Health is looking for an Applications Systems Analyst to join our Pharmacy Technology team to support systems for Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacy. You will report to the Manager of Outpatient Pharmacy Applications and be a part of an exciting expansion of pharmacy services for our patients. We have a diverse team of analysts and clinical pharmacists who support technology solutions for the pharmacy at our institution.

The areas of Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacy are rapidly growing, and our team is playing a significant role in installing, supporting, and optimizing pharmacy systems to support patient care activities. The analyst will partner closely with pharmacists, providers, operational leaders, and technology teams to support medication-use workflows, medication safety initiatives, regulatory requirements, and optimization of pharmacy technology solutions across ambulatory and specialty pharmacy environments.

Responsibilities*

  • Plan, implement and maintain Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacy operational and clinical applications to meet department needs
  • Support Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacy applications including testing, installation, system design, and system documentation
  • Partner with pharmacists, clinicians, and operational stakeholders to analyze business needs and translate requirements into safe and effective system solutions.
  • Participate in project activities (application upgrades, and new application implementations)
  • Perform business analysis activities for all system documentation and organization including disaster recovery and system configuration
  • Complete compliance and security audit requirements for Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacy applications and systems
  • Support medication safety and quality initiatives through system optimization, clinical decision support review, and workflow analysis.
  • Troubleshoot complex pharmacy informatics issues in collaboration with technical teams, application vendors, and operational departments.
  • Participate in on-call program for application continuity of operations., Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

Requirements

Senior Level

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience as an IT systems analyst
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Familiarity with IT project management principles

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-3 years of experience as an IT systems analyst
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Familiarity with IT project management principles

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience implementing IT healthcare solutions
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and other healthcare information regulations and requirements
  • Familiarity with community or specialty pharmacy operations
  • Knowledge of medication safety principles and clinical decision support
  • Experience supporting medication records and e-prescribing workflows
  • Experience with pharmacy automation systems
  • Experience with HL7 interfaces and messages
  • Experience with Epic Willow Ambulatory (certification or proficiency preferred)
  • Experience with Epic Compass Rose (certification or proficiency preferred)
  • 2+ years exposure to clinical informatics
