Job description

The Land Warfare and Missile Defense Systems (LWMDS) organization is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer with experience in Internet Protocol (IP) networks and software engineering using Python to drive the design and development of world class air and missile defense communication systems. This hybrid role encompasses responsibilities across both Systems and Software Engineering disciplines. It involves managing the full product development lifecycle and providing ongoing support for a custom Patriot Communications System management software application utilized directly by the warfighter. The position requires strong technical expertise, effective problem solving abilities, collaboration skills, and a dedication to delivering high quality solutions that address the critical needs of the warfighter.

What You Will Do

  • Perform extensive hands-on work in development and test labs with communications hardware, supporting activities such as development, testing, troubleshooting, and ongoing product support.
  • Design and optimize IP communications network architectures to meet the unique requirements of the Patriot system.
  • Develop configurations and settings for individual communications devices across a wide range of hardware.
  • Create orchestration and automation solutions to enable efficient software management of the communications system and its associated devices.
  • Software development in Python.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to various Patriot Communication Systems around the world.
  • Assist in the development and mentoring of new team members, fostering knowledge sharing and team growth.
  • Provide technical leadership to a small team of engineers supporting Communication software application development for an individual Patriot program(s).

Requirements

Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date, * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.

  • Software application development experience using Python or comparable programming languages., * Experience in Patriot Program (or similar program) system design, development, integration/verification, and sustainment.
  • Experience with Voice over IP (VoIP) communication design, configuration, and integration. Certifications in IP networking (e.g. CCNA, CCNP) is a plus.
  • Experience with cyber secure communications design, configuration, and integration.
  • Experience in development and deployment of software applications on cyber hardened Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with automated test development of both hardware and software.

Benefits & conditions

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
