Job description
Our team is looking for a Data Engineer / Data Management Specialist to support an important national security mission in the Charlottesville area.
The Work
You’ll help maintain, organize, improve, and govern data within an important operational environment.
Depending on your background, your work may include:
- Designing, maintaining, and improving database schemas
- Managing structured data and data relationships
- Improving data quality, consistency, and usability
- Developing and maintaining data standards
- Managing metadata and data definitions
- Documenting data sources, schemas, and relationships
- Helping integrate data from multiple systems
- Identifying opportunities to improve how data is stored, accessed, and shared
- Working with engineers, analysts, and mission users to understand how data should be structured and used
- Supporting data governance and stewardship practices
- Writing SQL and working with relational databases
We’re interested in people who have performed this type of work under different titles.
You might call yourself a Database Engineer, Data Engineer, Data Architect, Data Analyst, Data Steward, Knowledge Manager, or Intelligence Data professional. The title doesn’t matter as much as what you do: make complex data more organized, usable, reliable, and accessible.
Requirements
You may be a strong fit if you have:
- Experience working with databases or structured data
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Experience managing, organizing, or integrating data
- Understanding of database schemas and data relationships
- Experience documenting data or developing data standards
- Experience working in a classified or government environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work closely with both technical and mission users
Experience with data governance, metadata, data catalogs, cloud databases, ETL/ELT, Python, or modern data platforms is a plus.
