Job description

This isn’t a management role. It’s for the engineer who is the go-to person in the room. The one who shapes architecture, mentors’ peers without being asked, digs into the hardest problems, and leaves every codebase better than they found it. You’ll work across teams, influence technical direction, and be a force multiplier for everyone around you., * Serve as the technical authority for front-end architecture across one or more product domains, making high-impact decisions on patterns, tooling, and standards

  • Design, build, and maintain full-stack features - from pixel-perfect UIs to the APIs and services that power them
  • Lead technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and RFC processes - driving alignment across engineering teams
  • Identify and resolve systemic issues: performance bottlenecks, reliability gaps, scaling constraints, and tech debt that slows teams down
  • Own complex debugging and troubleshooting across the full stack - from browser rendering issues to API latency to infrastructure misconfigurations
  • Define and champion engineering best practices: code quality, testing strategies, observability, and deployment safety
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Product, and Design to shape roadmaps and ensure technical feasibility
  • Mentor and grow engineers at all levels through code reviews, pairing, design feedback, and technical guidance
  • Contribute to hiring by conducting technical interviews and helping define what great looks like for front-end engineering at TFS
  • Proactively communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong front-end focus and a track record of operating at a principal or staff engineer level
  • Deep expertise in React and Next.js, including App Router, SSR, SSG, ISR, streaming, and advanced rendering patterns
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript - you default to it and advocate for it across the codebase
  • Hands-on experience with Tailwind CSS and component libraries like shadcn/ui or similar design system tooling
  • Solid command of state management patterns using Zustand, Redux Toolkit, or equivalent
  • Experience with schema validation and form handling using Zod or similar libraries
  • Proven ability to design, build, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including API contract design, versioning, error handling, and type-safe client generation (e.g., tRPC, OpenAPI codegen)
  • Experience building serverless backend services on AWS, including:
  • API Gateway + Lambda for serverless API development
  • CloudFront and Lambda@Edge for edge logic and caching
  • S3 for asset storage and static hosting
  • DynamoDB or RDS for data persistence
  • Strong understanding of front-end performance: Core Web Vitals, code splitting, lazy loading, image optimization, HTTP caching, SWR/React Query, and bundle analysis
  • Deep experience debugging complex issues across the full stack - browser devtools, network traces, distributed tracing, log analysis, and profiling
  • Experience with testing at all levels: unit (Vitest/Jest), component (Testing Library), integration, and E2E (Playwright/Cypress)
  • Familiarity with monorepo tooling (Turborepo, Nx) and modern build systems (Vite, esbuild, Webpack)
  • Strong written and verbal communication - you can write a clear RFC, lead a design review, and explain a complex tradeoff to a non-technical stakeholder

Added bonus if you have

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in the financial services, banking, or insurance industry
  • Experience building and owning a design system or component library used across multiple teams
  • Familiarity with micro-frontend architecture patterns
  • Experience with event-driven architecture on AWS using EventBridge, SQS, SNS, and Lambda for decoupled, async workflows
  • Experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile development
  • Exposure to GenAI tooling integration in front-end products (e.g., streaming AI responses, prompt UIs, RAG-powered features)
  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer Associate)
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source front-end projects
  • Experience defining engineering standards, writing ADRs, or leading org-wide technical initiatives

Benefits & conditions

  • Professional growth and development programs to help advance your career, as well as tuition reimbursement
  • Team Member Vehicle Purchase Discount
  • Toyota Team Member Lease Vehicle Program (if applicable)
  • Comprehensive health care and wellness plans for your entire family
  • Toyota 401(k) Savings Plan featuring a company match, as well as an annual retirement contribution from Toyota, regardless of whether you contribute (if applicable)
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • Referral services related to prenatal services, adoption, childcare, schools, and more
  • Tax-Advantaged Accounts (Health Savings Account, Health Care FSA, Dependent Care FSA)
