Research, Analysis and Statistics Manager 2 - Transportation Systems Monitoring Unit Manager, Ready to step into a leadership role? Join us as the transportation systems monitoring unit manager in this opportunity to oversee ODOT’s Transportation Systems Monitoring Unit and gain valuable, hands-on management experience. You will oversee the federally funded Traffic Monitoring System Program and respond to the evolving needs of Oregon’s transportation system, helping ensure the traffic data that informs Oregon’s planning, engineering and infrastructure decisions is accurate and reliable. A day in the life:

  • Oversee and manage up to 16 employees.
  • Develop statewide traffic counting schedules and manage field staff.
  • Assign, review and approve team member work.
  • Manage traffic counting consultant contracts and projects.
  • Develop policies and procedures to enhance multimodal traffic count program
  • Oversee development and maintenance of permanent count station sites.
  • Develop partnerships with agencies conducting traffic counts.
  • Develop and maintain the annual State Planning and Research workplan required by FHWA.
  • Develop statewide traffic counting processes, practices, schedules and equipment needs in coordination with Region traffic engineers.
  • Validate and approve traffic monitoring data published in the annual Transportation Volume Tables.
  • Collaborate with Region and Transportation Systems Monitoring Unit staff to achieve program goals.
  • Work primarily in an office environment with regular computer use. Hybrid work options are available, with Tuesdays designated as required in-office days.

Requirements

Six years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience in research, analysis, and statistics, Three years of related experience in research, analysis, and statistics and a bachelor’s degree in a related field., * Experience overseeing, supervising, mentoring or coordinating the work of others.

  • Understanding of traffic counting practices, policies and how traffic count data is used for transportation planning, maintenance and engineering.
  • Experience collecting, reviewing, analyzing, evaluating or using traffic count data.
  • Familiarity with traffic monitoring, counting or other roadside transportation equipment and its basic functions.
