Job description

Leidos’ Defense Systems, Advanced Sensors and Protective Technologies Portfolio is seeking a talented EO/IR Perception Systems Analyst to join a multidisciplinary team to create unique solutions to complex engineering challenges in our Huntsville, AL location. This hybrid role blends engineering analysis with data analytics, making it ideal for those eager to work at the intersection of EO/IR sensor data and perception algorithms.

The Advanced Sensors and Protective Technologies Portfolio develops and evaluates EO/IR sensor systems and protection capabilities that improve threat detection, survivability, and overall mission effectiveness. We focus on advancing sensor system technologies through real-world testing, modeling and simulation, and performance analysis to help transition emerging sensor solutions into operational systems.

If this sounds like the kind of environment where you can thrive, keep reading!, * Work within a team of engineers and scientists to develop Python-based analysis scripts that facilitate the qualitative and quantitative analysis of EO/IR sensor systems and generate clear, well-structured data products.

  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support program objectives and develop clear visualizations that communicate key findings.
  • Assist with data collections and test events including pre-test planning, on-site test support, and post-test data cleaning, validation, and organization.
  • Implement industry-standard and custom metrics to evaluate EO/IR system and algorithm performance.
  • Document analysis methodologies, processes, and findings.
  • Support the development and validation of synthetic EO/IR data generation capabilities by defining analysis needs and comparing synthetic outputs to real-world sensor data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or similar) from an ABET-accredited institution, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, or a related field with relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with Python and common scientific libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, scikit-image, statsmodels, matplotlib, seaborn, plotly, etc.
  • Exposure to machine learning (ML) or statistical data analysis methods.
  • Strong analytical skills and willingness to learn EO/IR-specific evaluation techniques.
  • Interest in EO/IR systems and image-based detection and classification.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical findings clearly in both written and verbal formats within a cross-disciplinary team.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance OR meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final Secret Clearance., * Active SECRET clearance or above.
  • Familiarity with EO/IR imaging system concepts (pixels, noise, dynamic range, contrast, spectral bands)
  • Knowledge in the development and evaluation of a variety of ML architectures to include classical ML techniques as well as modern deep learning (DL) architectures for supervised and unsupervised learning.
  • Experience evaluating or developing computer vision algorithms for object detection, recognition, and tracking.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques for performing exploratory data analysis, comparing distributions of data, and for performing low dimensional embedding.
  • Familiarity with synthetic data generation or modeling & simulation concepts.
  • Familiarity with C++ programming
