Platform Engineer

Overview

iO Associates are supporting a large public-sector organisation. They are building a new engineering services function focused on provisioning cloud services, enabling software delivery, and raising engineering standards across the board. This is an opportunity to shape the future of how digital services are built and hosted.

What you’ll be doing

• Owning the provisioning of services from scripts to cloud deployments.
• Creating a small but pivotal engineering services function that manages cloud platforms from a product perspective.
• Enabling cross-build and hosting for software engineering teams.
• Working closely with software engineering and data engineering teams to ensure smooth delivery.
• Embedding DevSecOps and DevFinOps practices into the organisation.
• Advising on current industry best practices and guiding the team on the right path.

What we’re looking for

• Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Cloudflare).
• Proven track record in cloud provisioning, automation, and platform engineering.
• Someone confident in modern engineering practices who can challenge the status quo and influence change.
• Ability to work across functions and bridge software engineering, hosting, and OS responsibilities.
• A proactive, problem-solving mindset with real ownership of outcomes.
• Lead the development of an engineering services function that owns the cloud platform.
• Be part of a leadership-driven transformation to build tools internally rather than relying on contractors.
• Shape processes that directly improve services for residents in housing, property, and beyond.
• Flexible UK location.
