Job description

The Director, Information Technology Group, Wadsworth Center will provide overall vision, leadership, and strategic planning in the direction, development, and implementation of all aspects of the information technology (IT) program at the Wadsworth Center (the New York State Department of Health’s public health laboratory). The incumbent will work with key stakeholders to advance the IT needs of the Wadsworth Center, including regular coordination with Wadsworth Center executive leadership, Health Commissioner IT staff, the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS), Wadsworth Center public health program leads, and with staff managing grant-funded projects with substantial IT deliverables. The incumbent will supervise IT staff that support hardware and networking systems, software development (particularly laboratory information systems), IT project management, and instrumentation integration. The incumbent will also direct and oversee IT budgets and expenditures and work directly with Wadsworth Center and Health Department executive staff to coordinate IT investments across the Center. Occasional night/weekend work may be expected.

This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health!

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Technology, Information Technology, Health Informatics or another applicable math, science, or public health major and seven years of experience in the direction and management of an IT program in a scientific environment; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and nine years of such experience; OR eleven years of such experience. At least five years of experience must have included supervision of staff. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience in the direction and management of an IT program in a scientific environment., Demonstrated experience with leadership skills in technology operations and software development; experience evaluating and troubleshooting complex problems; experience documenting technical concepts, diagrams, and instructions for a wide variety of individuals; in-depth knowledge of current technology, Windows/Linux environment, network solutions, network security, user endpoints, databases, and software development; budget management experience including managing budgets across multiple funding sources; experience with IT architecture; experience in information security. A master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or Health Informatics or another applicable math, science, or public health major; Project Management Professional Certification and experience with laboratory information management systems or with communicating health information to other states or federal agencies.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with a combination of onsite and remote work.

This position may require occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays.
