Job description

The Academic Data Analyst will conduct analyses in collaboration with the rest of the Data and Information Management Team using data both internal and external to Uplift. The analyst will also provide support to schools and senior leadership to help leaders act on the data analysis provided. This will include supporting teachers and school leaders, providing support, training, and documentation as needed. This will also include having a deep understanding of Uplift’s data model and processes and being a subject matter expert in these areas.

The Data and Information Management Team resides in the Academic Team department, which includes Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Academic Support, Road to College & Career, and School Management. The team provides support to stakeholders across the organization, with our primary focus being campus-based instructional staff. As a member of the team, we collaborate with each group within the Academic Team to produce tools and analytics to best support campus-based staff and the organization.

Exercise independent judgment in evaluating complex or ambiguous data requests, determining appropriate analytical approaches, prioritizing competing stakeholder needs, identifying material trends or risks, and recommending data-informed solutions to academic and organizational leaders.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate complex information from multiple internal and external sources, synthesize findings into actionable insights, and determine the analytical approach necessary to address stakeholder and organizational needs. Support/train stakeholders on effective use of data systems/tools and interpretation of data from assessments and other data collection tools
  • Design and develop interactive dashboards and analytical tools, independently determining appropriate data sources, measures, calculations, visualizations, and presentation methods based on stakeholder and organizational needs.
  • Develop algorithms to identify students and teachers needing assistance in learning or teaching
  • Work in concert with the team in the structuring of data through building tables, views, stored procedures, and SQL queries
  • Work with Uplift’s Academic Team to evaluate best teaching strategies based on data
  • Use data to monitor the results of assessment data and assist stakeholders with analysis of the results and assist with the design, implementation, and measurement of focused intervention.
  • Participate in planning, needs analysis, and risk assessment; consult with teachers and leaders on how to best support their data use through the effective use of technology
  • Keep abreast of all new developments in areas of data analysis and disseminate necessary information to all stakeholders.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to analyze information needs and functional requirements
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned based on organizational needs.

Requirements

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree - applicable major preferred (Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a Quantitative Social Science), + 2 or more years’ experience with data analysis or business intelligence (e.g., Power BI, Google Data Studio, MicroStrategy, Tableau, etc.) preferred, or recent graduates with relevant academic, internship, or project experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or related fields.
  • Proven understanding of relational database concepts
  • Experience developing process documentation
  • Experience in applied statistics and value-added analysis
  • Experience in data analysis and problem-solving with large amounts of data
  • Special Skills/Certifications: Candidates should have the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Also, candidates should have experience working with artificial intelligence tools such as Gemini, Copilot, etc., * Communication Skills: Must be able to read, analyze, and apply common-sense understanding, carry out instructions in written or oral form, and be able to set priorities.
  • Bilingual Skills: Preferred but not required
  • Technology: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, SQL Server Management Studio, Python, Business Intelligence software
