Job description

We are looking for an IT Helpdesk Technician to play a key role providing high-quality technical support to staff and students across a busy and technology-focused learning environment.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you will be the first point of contact for IT support, helping users resolve technical issues and ensuring our systems and equipment continue to run effectively. Alongside managing helpdesk requests, you will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of technologies and develop your skills as part of an experienced IT team.

The role

Working under the direction of the Director of IT, you will:

  • Provide first-line technical support to staff and students, resolving and prioritising helpdesk requests
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and connectivity issues across desktops, laptops, printers, copiers and other devices
  • Support Microsoft technologies including Windows and Microsoft 365
  • Install, configure, maintain and decommission IT equipment
  • Undertake daily checks and help maintain the security and integrity of systems and data
  • Maintain accurate IT asset records and technical documentation
  • Assist with software deployment, upgrades and equipment installation
  • Support IT projects and the introduction of new technologies
  • Provide second-line support and assistance to colleagues across the trust when required

Requirements

You will have experience of supporting and managing desktops and laptops, together with a good working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office. Experience of networked printers and photocopiers and an awareness of network, antivirus and security issues are also important.

Just as importantly, you will be approachable, organised and customer-focused, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You will be comfortable explaining technical issues to non-technical users, prioritising competing demands and working both independently and as part of a team.

Experience with technologies such as Active Directory, Group Policy, Azure, Windows Server, VMware, Linux, Apple Mac, VOIP systems or thin clients would be an advantage, but you do not need to have experience in every area.

If you have a passion for IT, enjoy solving problems and want to use your technical skills in an environment where your work makes a genuine difference to staff and students, we would love to hear from you.
