Job description

We’re looking for somebody friendly, quick witted and suitably experienced to join our small digital team in building secure, reliable content-managed websites and web applications for the likes of the NHS, Home Office, Taylor Wimpey, Hasbean/Ozone Coffee and countless charities, universities, and police forces.

This position is remote, but a lot of the team are based in and around Leicestershire, and there may be a requirement at times to work together, visit clients, collaborate and socialise.

OUR TECH STACK

We have been creating websites and applications using Python and Django since 2007, and the Wagtail CMS for content managed websites since 2014. Other technologies and frameworks we use include Docker, Tailwind, PostgreSQL, MariaDB/MySQL, Elasticsearch, HTML5, JavaScript and sometimes, yes, WordPress. We host a large number of websites and applications with Rackspace and Amazon Web Services.

Requirements

Your key responsibilities will be the ongoing development and refinement of websites and apps old and new for a wide variety of clients. You’ll be helping to improve existing projects and working on brand new projects too.

Day to day you’ll be working alongside a small team of developers, designers, project managers, social media and search experts, who will all be there to support you and discuss and develop your ideas. You’ll also have access to the other 70-odd talented writers, designers, strategists and creatives across the company.

We need somebody that knows their way around Python and Django, and ideally some experience of Wagtail CMS too. Two years experience feels right - if it’s slightly less but you’re mindblowingly good then we’re all ears :)

Programming skills are definitely only half the story, you’ll also need to be able to:

  • Think independently and be able to solve unique challenges efficiently and autonomously using initiative… and AI
  • Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team
  • Possess good writing and communication skills
  • Be comfortable talking about and explaining technical concepts in plain English
  • Keep up to date with new techniques in your field and share knowledge and new ideas with the team
  • Be ready to muck in as and when needed

It’s not critical, but it would be beneficial if you also had experience in:

  • Working with WordPress websites at a basic level
  • Some working experience with Squarespace and Shopify
  • DevOps and deployment techniques
  • Front-end development techniques
  • Good cybersecurity practice

Benefits

There is a real buzz, excitement and family feel about the company, especially since we became Employee Owned last year. All 70 of us are passionate about what we do. As a fully remote agency, working from home (or wherever else you fancy), is our standard but our team spirit and strong culture shines through. We frequently organise meetups to get together, share pictures of our pets and kids, and have that all important face time with colleagues and friends.

But, we get it, this is a job ad, we know how it works - other benefits include:

  • Competitive salary based on your experience
  • Flexibility to work remotely
  • 20 days annual leave and 8 days national bank holidays plus paid days off around Christmas
  • Early finishes on Fridays
  • Your birthday off
  • Time off to volunteer for local charities to make a difference
  • A big good old messy Christmas party and a mid-year summer party
  • Whatever computer, software, books and other materials you might need
  • A healthy budget for whatever training, conferences, and other qualifications you might be interested in taking
  • Free coffee, pastries, and other goodies if you happen to be in the hot-desking space we have available in the city
  • Regular paid for social activities (in person and remote): cookalongs, yoga lessons, go-karting, curries, poker, away-days and more

References from RKH alumni that fondly remember us and regret moving on are available upon request.

If you’ve made it this far and this is making sense, please apply, cheers!
