Job description

Working for a rapidly growing digital agency, you will be:

  • Building client websites, from small updates through to complete bespoke sites.
  • Taking technical ownership of projects, including scoping, estimating, and flagging risk early.
  • Collaborating with project managers and account managers to hit deadlines and manage expectations.
  • Maintaining, improving and extending existing client websites.
  • Handling support tickets via our ticketing system.
  • Identifying and building AI and automation improvements to our development process, and contributing to internal tooling.

Requirements

  • Strong, demonstrable experience building and maintaining WordPress websites, including custom theme development.
  • Confident with HTML, CSS and JavaScript well beyond the basics.
  • Solid working knowledge of PHP and MySQL, and comfortable debugging both.
  • Experience owning projects end to end rather than working from tightly defined tickets.
  • 3+ years in a web development or similar role, ideally agency-side.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve bugs efficiently, including in code you didn’t write.
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy/consistency in layout and information.
  • A good communicator, confident dealing with clients directly and explaining technical decisions in plain language.
  • Ability to think through and solve problems independently, and to know when to escalate.

AI capability

  • Confident, everyday use of AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Claude Code, Copilot or similar) with a clear sense of where they help and where they don’t.
  • Good instincts for prompting, context, and reviewing AI output critically.
  • Interest in building as well as using: internal tooling, automations, scripts, and AI-assisted workflows that save the team time.
  • Willingness to help set standards for how we use AI, and to bring others up to speed.
  • Curiosity about where this is heading and a habit of testing new tools as they land.

Beneficial but not essential

  • Experience with React, Next.js or Vue.
  • Headless CMS experience (Sanity, Craft or similar).
  • WooCommerce or Shopify.
  • Working with third-party APIs and integrations.
  • jQuery/Ajax.
  • Site performance, Core Web Vitals and technical SEO fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite or Figma for handling design handover.
  • Experience building agentic workflows, MCP servers, or custom AI integrations., * Ability to self-manage, organise, and prioritise across multiple projects.
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines without dropping quality.
  • A good team member who’s happy in client and internal meetings.
  • Dedicated to finishing the job to a high standard.
  • Curious and forward-thinking, someone who embraces new tools and isn’t afraid to suggest a better way of doing things.
