Job description
The Civil Case Support Manager assists staff attorneys with client relations and support services. Civil case management requires the ability to anticipate needs of clients and attorneys, think critically, offer solutions to issues, and assist in obtaining supportive programming through direct services within the Mille Lacs Band Government., * Conduct compliance assessment of client records and case plans in order to determine client need for supportive services assistance.
- Assist client with obtaining supportive services to assist with overall compliance of civil matter progress.
- Review all incoming orders, reports, and other legal documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance and prepare a variety of reports for legal counsel review.
- Maintain a schedule to monitor service compliance, agency compliance, and court-ordered review periods for compliance.
- Prepare summary narrative reports and suggestions for ongoing civil case management supportive services, compliance, and client progress to attorneys for review.
- Initiate calls to the clients, outside agency, and others directly involved in the case.
- Conduct research and investigations as assigned and report findings to attorneys in written narrative.
- Performs duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associates degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or Paralegal studies is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or Paralegal Studies is preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, the legal process, and legal terminology.
- Knowledge of Indian Child Welfare Act, Minnesota Family Preservation Act, child protection, and family law.
- Knowledge of tribal customs, traditions, and beliefs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with agency staff and other relevant legal and supportive agency contacts.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to deal with highly confidential information.
- Knowledge of computers and software application programs, database management, and basic record keeping principles.
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to compose, proofread, and edit correspondence, reports, and other documents.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Must have drivers license.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test.
Benefits & conditions
- Nature of work is such that incumbent experiences regular periods of moderate to high stress levels due to current workload. Primary sources of stress agitated or distressed clients and families in need of attention.
- Hours are typically 8-5, but extra hours may be necessary to meet deadlines and maintain workload. Some Band holidays may be interrupted due to State Court requirements.
- Work is primarily indoors.
- Moderate threat of personal danger or risk.
- Some local travel may be required.
