Role Summary

The Infrastructure Technical Architect is responsible for designing, delivering, and maintaining secure, scalable, and cost-efficient infrastructure solutions that support critical business applications and services. This role works closely with engineering, security, operations, and business stakeholders to define architectural roadmaps, technical standards, and best practices across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and architect end-to-end infrastructure solutions across public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premises environments, ensuring alignment with performance, availability, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure reference architectures, standards, and reusable design patterns covering networking, compute, storage, virtualization, containers, and platform services.
  • Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives including cloud migrations, data center consolidation, and platform upgrades.
  • Collaborate with application, DevOps, and security teams to ensure seamless integration, automation, and secure configuration of infrastructure services.
  • Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, Ansible, etc.) and CI/CD practices to improve consistency and reduce manual work.
  • Assess new infrastructure technologies, conduct proof-of-concepts, and recommend cost-effective, scalable solutions.
  • Lead capacity planning, performance optimization, and cost-management activities, including lifecycle governance for infrastructure components.
  • Define and support high-availability, disaster recovery, business continuity, and backup strategies.
  • Produce and maintain architectural documentation including solution diagrams, standards, runbooks, technical recommendations, and impact assessments.
  • Mentor engineering and operations teams through design reviews, architecture coaching, and technical guidance.
  • Participate in incident reviews and postmortems, identifying architectural improvements to enhance stability and prevent recurrence.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in architecting and delivering enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions in hybrid, cloud, and on-premises environments.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and strong understanding of cloud-native architectures.
  • Strong foundation in networking (routing, switching, load balancing, VPN, DNS), virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V), and storage architectures.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure security including IAM, network segmentation, encryption, and vulnerability management.
  • Practical experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Datadog).
  • Experience with high-availability design, disaster recovery planning, backup technologies, and capacity planning.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical options and trade-offs to varied stakeholder groups.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Certifications

  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect.
  • Infrastructure/architecture certifications including TOGAF, CCNA/CCNP, VMware VCP.
  • Security or DevOps-related certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, HashiCorp Certified) are advantageous.

Behavioral & Leadership Competencies

  • Strategic, forward-thinking mindset with a focus on delivering practical solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities, especially in ambiguous or complex environments.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse technical and business teams.
  • Commitment to mentoring, team enablement, and knowledge sharing.
  • Customer-focused approach with an emphasis on operational excellence.

Success Metrics / KPIs

  • Successful delivery of modernization projects and migrations on schedule and within defined scope.
  • Increased automation coverage and improved deployment quality.
  • Demonstrable cost optimization and improved resource utilization.
  • Increased adoption of architectural standards across infrastructure teams.

Working Context

  • Works in close partnership with Development, Security, Operations, and Product teams.
  • May require occasional travel for stakeholder coordination or vendor engagements.
  • Suitable for onsite, hybrid, or remote working arrangements depending on organizational needs.
