Job description

Our Blue Ring (I-SS) program is looking for experienced personnel to join their ground system team as a ground software engineer. We are a passionate group developing mobility missions that will impact the history of space exploration! We are a team with wide-ranging skillsets that value problem-solving. You will work in a fast-paced dynamic environment, contributing innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will help build, integrate, and maintain the flight network required for the Blue Ring (I-SS) Mission Operations Center used to fly on-orbit vehicles. As a Senior Network Engineer on a mission-driven team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will design, build, and maintain the automation frameworks that underpin the network infrastructure supporting critical spaceflight systems. From enterprise core to industrial and facility access layers across multiple Blue Origin sites, you will transform how we design, deploy, manage, and operate networks through scripting, orchestration, and modern DevOps practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and implement standardized network design practices across In-Space-Systems sites and design scalable network solutions that support spaceflight operations

  • Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks and tools to automate network design, deployment, and operational management processes across Blue Origin’s multi-vendor, multi-site network environment.

  • Develop, secure, and maintain network equipment to support mission operations

  • Proactively monitor network performance and health dashboards; triage and resolve issues with full ownership through resolution, including root cause analysis.

  • Support network capacity planning and lifecycle management across enterprise and industrial environments., Applicants for employment at Blue Origin must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S.as a refugee or granted asylum.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation
  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience architecting, developing and deploying scalable and maintainable network infrastructure.

  • Experience in network device installation, configuration, and monitoring.

  • Experience developing and managing network device configurations in multi-vendor environments

  • Deep understanding of protocols including but not limited to (TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, MPLS), routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), and network services (DHCP, DNS, NTP)

  • Experience coding in higher-level languages (e.g. Python, Go, Rust, C++, etc)

  • Highly organized team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated track record of resourcefulness from their previous assignments.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

  • Must Possess and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Clearance

Desired:

  • Experience with Juniper networking platforms (JNCIS-ENT, JNCIS-DevOps, JNCIP, or higher certifications a plus)

  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks security platforms

  • Experience with network monitoring and observability platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Grafana, Prometheus, or similar)

  • Experience with network capacity planning and lifecycle management

  • Experience with cloud networking and hybrid on-premises/cloud infrastructure

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and GitOps workflows
