Job description

Do you have experience as an Infrastructure Engineer in Retail Banking, Betting, or E-Commerce organisations, where there is a very high volume of customers online?

Client: Financial Services company with offices in Edinburgh and London. The role is 6 days per month, working 1 day a week (Thursday) with an on-call element every 6-8 weeks. The position is contract and salary varies by location.

This pivotal role involves building and maintaining solutions for their public-cloud platform (AWS). You will collaborate with stakeholders to develop product roadmaps, provide operational support for pattern or product-related issues, and work with key vendors. The platform covers Mortgages, Loans, Credit Cards, Overdrafts and new next-generation work.

Your solutions will use automation to build reliable, secure, resilient, sustainable and operationally compliant services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of intuitive, self-service infrastructure products.
  • Develop technical skills through continuous learning and development.
  • Contribute to the delivery of infrastructure-as-code solutions.
  • Build an awareness of design-thinking tools and techniques with users to improve the product.
  • Provide operational support for pattern or product-related issues.
  • Work with key vendors to deliver infrastructure services and technology for the product.
  • Own responses to failures and demonstrate knowledge of failure recovery.
  • Discuss your experience in architecture, design, build or deployment - all will be assessed.
  • Communicate effectively.

Key Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience (experience across failures and recovery is essential).
  • Strong AWS knowledge: S3, WAF, EC2, Load Balancing, CloudFront, and related services.
  • Extensive Kubernetes experience - proven production deployments.
  • Helm and Terraform expertise.
  • Experience with CI/CD, preferably Gitlab.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Grafana, Loki, Tempo, Mimir and Prometheus.

Technical Skills

  • Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform.
  • Automation scripting (Python or Shell) and understanding of SCDLC.
  • Agile working practices and the ability to create vision for Release Train, feature team, platform and domain.
  • Knowledge of AWS hosting and services.

Advantageous

  • Python or Shell scripting experience.
  • Network background.
  • DevOps/SRE background.
  • Experience managing deployments across multiple regions.
  • A robust SRE mindset and ability to support infrastructure out of hours.

Additional Information

  • The role includes an on-call duty once every 6-8 weeks. - The position is contract for 6 days a month, habitual work on Thursdays.
