Job description
The Assistant Director for Digital Design and Communications executes digital design, communications, and marketing strategies across multiple digital platforms to engage current and future donors, alumni, volunteers, and other stakeholders in support of UW Medicine Advancement’s fundraising goals. This position is responsible for implementing website, email, and digital design strategies for stewardship, annual philanthropy, pipeline development, and other donor communications. Working collaboratively with colleagues, internal partners, and external vendors, the Assistant Director helps ensure digital communications are accessible, effective, and aligned with UW Medicine Advancement branding.
What You Will Do
Digital Experience & Web Content (30%)
- Manage and enhance UW Medicine Advancement website properties, identifying opportunities for ongoing improvements to the user interface and overall website experience.
- Partner with internal colleagues and external vendors on website redesigns, refreshes, and rebuilds to support successful project completion.
- Publish content, build webpages, and develop website modules that align with UW Medicine Advancement branding, accessibility standards, and digital best practices.
Email Communications & Campaign Delivery (30%)
- Design and maintain email templates, modules, and related digital assets that align with accessibility standards and UW Medicine Advancement branding.
- Build, test, and distribute email communications supporting stewardship, annual philanthropy, events, and other outreach initiatives, following email platform best practices.
- Review and approve select departmental email communications as needed.
Digital Design & Multimedia Content (30%)
- Create digital assets, including graphics, videos, GIFs, illustrations, icons, diagrams, and charts, for use across websites, email communications, social media, and digital advertising channels while maintaining accessibility and brand standards.
- Translate ideas and written content into clear, engaging visual materials that communicate information effectively.
- Recommend opportunities to enhance the quality, consistency, and usability of digital content and design assets.
- Stay informed about evolving design practices, tools, and technologies, and apply new approaches as appropriate.
- Edit audio and video content for a campaign-focused podcast and support basic video capture activities.
Other Duties (10%)
- Participate in team meetings and regular one-on-one meetings to support collaboration and ongoing work.
- Create layouts and apply branding standards for reports and dashboards.
- Create QR codes and other supporting materials as needed.
- Contribute to additional projects and responsibilities in support of team and organizational goals., * Hybrid-work schedule with 2 days in the office and 3 days eligible for telework per week. The primary onsite work location is UW Medicine offices in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle.
- Cubicle/open workspace environment that may result in higher noise levels and visual distractions.
- Workload and times may vary, including occasional evenings or weekends.

Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, your application must demonstrate that you meet the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration., Bachelor’s degree AND three or more years of experience in website development, email automation or digital design., * Experience managing websites, email communications, and digital content across multiple platforms.
- Proficiency with WordPress (or similar website platforms), HTML, CSS, email marketing tools, and digital design applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable tools.
- Experience creating accessible, brand-aligned digital content, including graphics, video, or multimedia assets.
- Experience using video and/or audio editing software.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, think strategically, solve problems proactively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while contributing to shared team goals and continuous improvement efforts.
- Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
