Job description

As a Senior Data Scientist at Walmart, you will leverage advanced analytical techniques and machine learning to transform complex data into actionable business insights. This role requires expertise in data sourcing, model development, validation, and deployment to support scalable solutions that drive strategic decisions. You will collaborate across functions to align data strategies with business objectives, ensuring data quality and effective visualization. About the team:

Our team drives Walmart’s e-commerce search backend by leveraging machine learning and advanced algorithms to deliver the most relevant product results. Focused on enhancing the customer journey, the team ensures a seamless transition from customer intent to purchase. By applying expertise in data science, natural language processing, and large language modeling, the team continuously improves search accuracy and user experience. Collaborating across functions, the team supports scalable model deployment and data pipeline development, aiming to optimize business outcomes through innovative data-driven solutions.

What you’ll do:

  • Identify and source relevant data from multiple business domains, ensuring data quality and suitability for analysis.
  • Develop, test, and deploy advanced analytical models using statistical and machine learning techniques to solve complex business problems.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines and workflows to support model deployment and ongoing analytics.
  • Create clear, insightful data visualizations and presentations to communicate findings and influence decision-making.
  • Mentor junior team members, promoting best practices in data science and analytics methodologies.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, and statistical methods to develop and deploy analytical models.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and data visualization tools such as Matplotlib, Plotly, and Tableau.
  • Strong knowledge of data pipelines, data quality standards, and data governance principles.
  • Expertise in model assessment, validation, and tuning using advanced statistical techniques.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into data-driven solutions with a clear understanding of business context.
  • Experience with natural language processing and large language modeling applications.

Option 1- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years’ experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years’ experience in an analytics related field. Option 3 - 5 years’ experience in an analytics or related field.
